Is it even more bloated than 7.0? How can a PDF reader require more than 100 megs installed?

just use foxit reader, vsersion 1.2, free, 1mb exe file, dont even need to install, start in 0.1 sec, uses almost no memory, you can even type in a pdf file anywhere u want, useful when you're filling these rebate forms which give very small space to write

Because its more than just a .PDF reader

You can download just the reader if you'd like, and its not 100MEG

I installed it and it seems to be working well. Startup times are quite fast.

Agree that it starts much faster than previous versions. Leads me to wonder if some DLLs are kept resident in memory ( similar to the Office feature ). I like the new UI.

At a glance i didn't see any security reasons to upgrade. Any one know of any? I don't want to bother trying to download over a dialup connection if i don't have to, & i rarely need a pdf reader.

UB meaning universal binary? I just checked it out and it seems to have seperate ppc and intel versions. Or at least the installer is; there's no way I'm going through with a full installation to see what it does.

they started adding this adobe quickstart thingy to your Startup folder since 7.0 b/c 6.0 took like an eon to load.

With 7x (and sometimes with 6x) I had problems with pages opening up with bad zoom or not in full screen mode or with to many toolbars and it made the text look bad. Also, the text is not sharp at all when small (like a picture) this has always been, but it got bold sometimes which made sharpness worse.
Does 8 improve on any of this, specifically remembering file view settings and sharp text.

Adobe Acrobat always is sharp as it handles the files, why not make the reader work similarly and be clear and sharp all the time.

There is a way around the slow loading time. It all lies within the "Plugin" folder. Adobe Reader loads numerous plugins, that are most likely not needed. I can't remember right off hand, but there are really only about three or four of those plugins that are needed. The rest can be removed and backed up out of the ..\reader\plugin folder. Once that is done, Adobe Reader will start much more quickly.

I use Ghostscript w/ GSview.

6.0 was the worse one though. Taht thing was a hog. 7.0 loaded quickly. But I still prever Ghostscript w/ GSview.

IIRC, I did just download the reader, but I'll take your word for it.

I've deleted those entries and it still starts up very quickly. Version 8 is quite simply excellent.

The reader installer is ~20 MB.
