If they started filming more shows in Widescreen, then they could put the ads in the bottom sectino not being used by the show. But if it's blocking part of the picture, then I'd say that'd pretty cheap. I'd complain to the station directly.

I hardly ever watch TV commercials; the volume is much louder than the regular programming, and they are aweful. I always switch the channel when commercial are on. I've always thought commercials should be have more of an entertainment quality--just to keep me from changing the channel--much like the Super Bowl commercials.

What section not used by the show? All the widescreen shows fill up my entire screen?
I think the "dumbass tv execs" realized that those with actual widescreen TV's don't have a letter boxed picture when watching the show. No letterbox means no black bars.Originally posted by: Smoke0

I thought about the WS thing too, but we are dealing with dumbass tv execs here.
They just want pass ports to "The Land of Many Dollers."
And it's on many stations sadly, so they need to see alot people don't want it before anythings even discussed.

The worst part is that they put it during the BEST part of the show (ie, funniest part of a comedy or the dramatic part of a drama)

There is a simple answer to all your Television problems.
Simply stop watching. That's what I did.

It'll just get more and more intrusive as DVR's catch on and people regularly skip all conventional ads. Those banners will be prime real estate.
And if you want something else to bitch about, the actual amount of content continues to go down as they squeeze in more commercials. Ten years ago it was something like 45 out of 60 minutes, now it's down almost to 40.
