Advanced Clock Calibration - should I use it?

I see this feature in my BIOS and I'm wondering if I should set it to AUTO to get a higher overclock.

If I test using Prime and see that Core 4 fails, should I use ACC to juice that core a bit?

I believe that ACC was created to help overclock phenom I processors, but Phenom II chip have ACC integrated so having it on won't make a difference. I've heard that acc can cost instability to phenom II overclocking performance, but in other weird scenarios it also helped boost some more MHz. I would give it a try run prime95 and see if it really gives better overclocking performance, if not back to your stable settings.

EDIT: Found it. It is Disabled. Never used that on my Thuban.

I think its for things like unlocking cores, not a higher overclock.

It was originally meant to help you get a higher OC (which it will, sometimes), but I think it's only good for unlocking cores on Phenom II's.

It was a feature added to motherboards shortly after Phenom launched to help attain better overclocks but AMD never did specify how or why it worked, but it was proven to improve overclock results. Later it was discovered that activating it on Phenom II X2/X3 processors would cause the cores to unlock. To my knowledge it has zero effect on overclocking with Phenom II or Athlon II.

I think that it can help to nudge individual weak cores towards stability when you get to the very edge of what the silicon will give you.

At least I thought it did help when I was messing with a Phenom II X4 which would fail one thread of Prime95 with the others happily chugging along seemingly indefinitely.

I'm fairly certain that I wasn't imagining the whole thing at the time

Overall, the rewards for tweaking ACC on Phenom II, mesured in performance_gained/time_spent seem pretty dismal -- apart for core-unlocking of course, which was an entirely other level of good-times.
