Advice for installing Team Foundation Server in a Workgroup?

Planning a TFS 2017 build with SQL Server 2016 Standard.

What OS should I use for this? Considering Windows 10 vs Windows Server...I don't really want to install and use or manage an Active Directory because changing the workgroup is not an option.

Current setup is a 2-3 person workgroup, plus a Windows 10 IIS/SQL Server for testing web applications.

Anyone have any experience, ideas on how to proceed?

You can't install SQL 2016 Standard on Windows 10, if you do, only the client/tools parts will be installed.

Download and install free SQL 2016 Developer/Express on Win10 and then install TFS 2017.

Is this something new for 2016?

I currently have SQL Server 2014 Standard running on Win10 for the IIS/SQL test server.
(The reason I am running standard instead of express is for SSIS)

I probably did not remember correctly. It's the Enterprise version that can't be installed on client Windows.

I did successfully install SQL Developer 2016 on WIn10 & install TFS 2017 on Win10.

So to continue the discussion, when doing SQL/TFS on Win 10, how do you setup all the accounts?

Person X on Machine Y will need to Manage the TFS projects (create new, etc)
Person Z on Machine Q is a PM and will need to create stories, tasks, Sprint Schedules, etc
Person A on Machine B is a developer and will need to check in code.

Do they use their local accounts on their machines, or will the need an additional User/Password created on the Win10 machine hosting the TFS?

TFS is intuitive when using A/D... but not so much without it.

You will need to create an account on your "server" for each user. There is no way with SQL Server or TFS to point to a user on another PC outside a domain.

Yeah, it would be local accounts on the (Win10) server running TFS, not accounts on individual machines.

You lose Sharepoint & Reporting function of TFS if using WIn10 as server, however.
