Advice on a power supply

Recently, It seemed as if my computer died in the middle of a WOW session when it made a massive screeching sound in my headphones and went blank. When trying to turn it back on, the screen stays black with only a blinking _.

When checking for damagaed parts, the only thing that looked noticeably wierd was my power supply, an Antec SL350. There was gunk on the caps, it looked like pale orangey goop that clung to them spider man's web.

Anyway, I need a PSU to power my system, preferably on the cheap. This PSU wont be used for any other system since by the time I upgrade, its gonna be a whole new system.

At the moment, it needs to power
Athlon xp 3200+
1 gb ddr400 ram
2 HDD
1 DVDRW
a vanilla 6800
2 120mm fans and an 80mm fan

I was going to return the Antec for warrenty coverage, but it would cost roughly 30$ in shipping so I decided to just get a new one, preferably under 50$ for shipping. Thanks for the help

Man are people making these Antec stories up? :Q How old is the PSU?, usually it takes awhile for the caps to go bad.

As far as the replacement, Forton-Source would probably my choice with a lower budget in mind. The 300 watt FSP300-60GLN is very high quality unit which should run that system fine. If 300 watts scares you there is the AX400-PN but it's not build to the same standard as the GLN.

The FSP-Sparkle I linked is much better than any AX-Fortron.

No ppl are not making up Antec PSU stories

How come we are getting like 5 PSU threads a day? How come people don't jsut get it. Yet everyday, we still see peopel come in with Antecs blowing up, Ultra-X deals they bought frying, even Seasonics blowing up. Goodness. This is one of those things that confuse me..

You never see people saying "recommend me a motherboard" even though they're mostly the same. Take a DFI board, an Asus board and Abit board. They're almost identical in features. The only way you could figure out which one is really better is reading forums and reviews.

I say it's the same with PSUs. Yet you see people asking for PSUs and never motherboards.

Weird?

The goop might not be indicative of a problem. My PSU has the same stuff, probably for vibration damping.
