Advice on commuter bike?

I see quite a lot of electric bikes around town these days. Scooters, even Seques and similar too. I marvel at them. I often wonder if a bike I see is battery assisted, it's often hard for me to tell, watching them in operation.

The energy density of lithium batteries is astounding. Their rechargeability is marvelous.

I have Schwalbe city-bike tires on my "clunky" 1985 Bianchi mountain bike which I ride to this day.... works great and I mounted them myself.

I have Continental Contact Plus 27.5" tires (great tires) and my bike is a (2019) Cannondale Catalyst 3. I got it on sale from REI for $460. I have re-chargeable lights ($8) on Amazon for the pair vs. the $140 headlights that REI sells. My next bike will have a single chain ring. I want low maintenance. The current market prices for bikes is just wrong. My Continental tires do not wear at all. I think I got them for $25 a tire from Amazon and now they are $50 a tire.

I had a set of Conti "knobby" tires on my Bianchi for a good 10 years... replaced them last summer when they started cracking a bit.

Only got the Schwalbe's because from reading reviews they resist flats slightly better.... very happy with them so far.

Chicago bike share program has lots of e-bikes and scooters now. They are great on a hot day when I don't want to arrive at my destination dripping in sweat. I usually bike to get some exercise though so most of the time I'm taking the ol' fashioned pedal bikes. It's really amazing how fast the e-bikes are though.

Yeah, I've never used battery assisted transportation of any kind AFAIK. I'm all about being fit, so I crank my 12 speed. I also quad skate, lately about 5 days/week, I was doing every day but it's around 5 now... 10 miles every time, though (on a smooth street), with a heart rate monitor strapped to my torso.

Highly recommend if you ever get a chance to try one. I distinctly remember the feeling of power/joy the first time I pedaled an e-bike.
