Hi,

I have my opty running @ 2.4ghz at 1.45v running ram on 166 divider
Prime stable. 50c full load

However when i up it to 2.5ghz it fails prime on one core in seconds.

So I raised the vcore to 1.475 in bios and ran prime again. And changed the HT frequency to x3

Same thing failed.

I then set ram timings at default value(failed again)

Is it safe to raise v-core to 1.5v this seems an awful big jump to make it stable at 2.5ghz
also cpuz is saying I'm putting 1.5v through this chip when in the bios i have raised vore onle +0.75

EDIT: I upped the vcore to 1.5v and failed prime again after about 2mins only on one core.

I could run my x2 3800 at 2.5 on 1.475 all day long with tighter timings.Have I just got a bad clocking opty?

I thought the opterons had better memory controllers and better OC potential.
Up to now I am not impressed.Any help would be great.

what can I do I'm stuck?

Any advice?

Thanks in advance

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE

I think I might of worked out the problem!

I have just bought and installed a DFI Expert mobo (I must say what a fine mobo)
Anyway I have raised the vcore to only 1.45v in the bios and upped the FSB to 250

so now I'm running 2.5ghz @1.45 vcore.

Been running prime for 1hr and no errors.

With the epox mobo this would not have happened.

This DFI board seems alot more stable and there are no fluctuation in voltages in cpu-z either.

Also the epox temps were incorrect. I was getting 44c idle temps on a opteron 146.x2 3800 and my opteron!

the temps in the DFI board are 29c idle 38c full load after priming for an hour!

Ok the board was 150 pounds but it seems I dont have a turkey cpu after all.

I will post some pics after priming some more

The temps on the epox are right and the temps on your expert are wrong. This is a known issue with the temp sensor on the expert board and the temp is actually at least 7-10 degrees higher then what its telling you.

i recommend getting a thermalright SI-120 heatsink and a panaflo fan and using arctic silver my temps are listed as 21C idle and 32C load by the bios so it actually means im running at 31C idle and 42C load, plus the artic silver hasnt had time to settle yet either so the temps might go down a couple degrees.

I emailed epox about the temp issue asking why my

opteron 146
x2 3800
opteron 170

were all 44 c when idle.

They repiled with

"We have check this issue ,it is because the hardware design for sensor check is not smart ,so the bios for CPU temperature steps range controls are wide and for some ranges will show same temperature on display monitor, but this issue will not effect the system to work .

U still better be careful with your temps on the expert board they are 10C higher then what they say this a known issue and there are numerous posts on DFI-street.com about this.
