Advice on getting ripped off from an Ebay Buyer =(

I am in a tough situation, I just had a payment reversed from a 250GB Hard Drive, in which the buyer bid on, won, and payed with paypal. Few days after I sent the item, I get an email from ebay saying:

This email is to inform you that any recent bids placed by *****@****.com may have been by an unauthorized third party. We are now in the process of restoring the account to its true owner.

If this person was the winning bidder for the transaction then the transaction in question should be considered null and void. You may relist the item and request a credit for the Final Value Fee. When a seller submits a final value fee credit request, unpaid Items are automatically identified by our system. Our system will then keep records of the credit requests that are received from sellers regarding transactions that were not completed.

Of course, this is all bull ******, not hard to tell, shortly after I get a paypal reversed payment. So what now? bite the bullet, or does anyone know how I can fight this =( ?

Doesnt look like it - Unconfirmed address. But I dont understand how that is to secure the buyer, the fact that it is unsecured should be reason to let the seller keep the money. So yeah, lesson learned or can I do something about this =/ ?

The main thing is that you a) sent it to the confirmed address that is on file with that account and b) the account is verified.

The confirmed address means that that person added some type of credit card (I think) and they verified that the address he listed for his Paypal account and the address listed for the CC are the same.

How does it make it secure? Well you know for a fact it's legit. You can't really rip someone's CC off and then magically change the address to your own (it's possible but not likely).

I'm sorry to say but you should count this as a loss and learn to never ship to an unverified/unconfirmed address/PP account. In all of my auctions I specifically state that the buyer MUST have a verified Paypal account with a confirmed ship to address on file. I also state I ONLY ship to the confirmed ship to address and NOTHING else. I also say that if the buyer wins the auction and does not have what I asked for, I do not send the item, I refund whatever fradulent funds they sent me and I leave them a nice big negative.

Why not just call the local police for that address and inform them that someone is ripping you off and hacking someone's paypal account? Easy case.

If the package hasnt arrived, recall it with the shipper.

In cases of fraud if its still in transit you can get the package back. Especially with USPS.

Has the item arrived yet? If it is UPS/Fedex/DHL it may be possible to contact the carrier and get them to return it to you.

if you sent the item fedex ground or ups and it hasn't arrived yet, you can call them and ask them to recall the item.

Okay well I guess your right, may as well count my losses, I will find my receipt and try to stop it, but Im betting its too late. Guess every single time I get a payment I have to click on every individual one just to see that its from a confirmed address. Paypal is a horrible product IMO, and someone should make a more secure and accurate substitute, because the fraud can be so easily seen with the ebayer already having a negative in addition to everything else.

You can setup paypal to only accept payment from confirmed addresses and only from addresses within the US.

I have no love for Paypal either but don't blame them in this case. They are pretty clear about their rules if you want to be protected.

Those rules aren't arbitrary either. They are based on the chargeback proceedures used by the credit card companies. If an item is shipped to an address that isn't on file with the cc issuer then a chargeback is virtually guaranteed in a dispute. That's where Paypal's "verified" address policy comes from. They let you take the risk if you want but you are warned that you won't have a leg to stand on if there is a dispute.

I see, is there a way to set in YOUR paypal options to auto refuse anyone not verified? If there is not an option for that, I most certainly will blame paypal, its retarded to expect me to monitor every payment.
