Advice on IP camera for 24/7 surveillance.

Hi guys.

So I'm looking for a camera which is able to provide me with the ability to recognize a person within 15 meters night and day. I hope I can keep my budget below $300 - do you have any suggestions?

WiFi would be a plus as it would be placed indoors behind a glass window with no PC nearby.

I don't have a particular one in mind, but at my previous employer we used Axis cameras. If you decide on something different, I would make sure it supports the ONVIF standard.

Probably not for you but I discovered you can turn any android phone or tablet into one. Currently using my old samsung 7 inch tab as one, its set to email me photo if it detects movement. I believe you can even set the resolution you want (choice of front or rear camera)

I just mentioned this as we all have tons of unused phones and tablets lying around. Numerous programs at the market.

15m day/night evidence collection grade for $300 - you'd probably struggle.

I use Sony cameras - PTZ versions outside, IR domes looking outside, and domes inside. The current-gen cameras use adaptive IR illumination so you get recognisable detail whatever the distance (up to 15m ish) of the moving subject.

For what you want I'd say go for the 1080 versions (i.e. the SNC-CH280 or the dome 280). They're around $1500 on discount.

At $300...Foscam. It's not going to do FR at 15M day and night though.

Call cctvcamerapros.com first. They are VERY VERY HONEST, a couple of US Veterans started the company. They don't sell you what you don't need.

Facial recognition and license plate are things people REALLY want but aren't always cheap. 24/7 coverage is about how much you are capturing and your retention need.

I read a good amount of reviews about foscom cameras and it seems very reliable. It's supposed to be really good but it really really depends on which hub you use. You have to make sure that whatever product you buy, its compatible with your hub. There's a security company called micasaverde and it has a hub that connect with various products that use Z-wave, Wifi, yada yada. On one of their updates, it messed up the connection with the foscom camera making is obsolete. It isn't the camera's fault but the hub's. You want to be careful about what products you purchase because you don't want the hassle in the long run.

p.s. i read that micasaverde has a lot of glitches so I chose to stay away from them because their inconsistency. Wanted a system that is reliable. Be sure to do LOTS of research prior to purchasing your security system because when you invest a lot of money in a security system, you want it to last for years!
