Advice on memory

my rig:
processor: C2D e6600
mobo: Asus p5w DH
videocard: evga 7900 GTO

i was going to get Mushkin XP2 PC2-6400 2GB 2X1GB DDR2-800 CL 4-4-3-10 @ $340CDN last week, but this week it costs $416CDN!...

other ones I am looking at are:
Corsair XMS2 TWIN2X2048-6400C4 2GB 2X1GB PC6400 DDR2-800 CL 4-4-4-12 @$369.43CDN

Corsair XMS2 TWIN2X2048-6400C4PRO 2GB 2X1GB PC2-6400 DDR2-800 DDR2 CL 4-4-4-12 @$394.16

so i need suggestions or should I just bite the price and just buy the mushkin?

oh yea... i plan todo some decent amount overclocking (already have a watercooling setup planned out to buy)

I want the best performance 2GBkit of ram for under $400 (preferable pc2-6400 or greater even)

We are getting completely raped for RAM pricing here in Canada right now :frown:
Terribly.

Due to lots of fun issues with C2Ds & OCZ lack of compatibility, i'd stay away from OCZ unless you know for sure it works well with that mobo.

I'd recommend buying RAM from TankGuys right now.
They are a US store who has superb customer service (check their reseller ratings score ), & they are nice enough to ship to Canada

I can vouch for them, as can many others here.

Even when you add exchange rate, shipping, & the ~ $25 border levy, you cannot beat that RAM for your price range.

The DDR2-800 stuff is the better deal, as with looser timings (5-5-5), you'll almost for sure hit at least 1000.
You can see the DDR2-1000 stuff in my sig right now.

Now on the note of the mobo, why the P5W DH?

If you like OCing a lot, which it sounds like you do, the P5B Deluxe is a much better choice.

Not to mention cheaper than the P5W DH.

thanks for the suggestions, i will look into that team group ram (i was never considering to buy ocz ram)

any thoughts on any of the corsair ram I posted?

as for asus p5w dh... from every review/OC results i have seen, clock for clock, the asus p5w beats out any p5b board.

I'd recommend the corsairs. I'm using a pair of the twin pros with no problems in an asus p5b deluxe. They only oc to about 850 mhz with 2.1 volts, but ymmv. OCZ's are horrendous right now with asus's and compatability. I tried some OCZ golds from my AMD rigs and no POST joy.

Ummm from what ive seen all of the Corsair ram works with that MOBO and works really well. i would go the route of corsair just becasue of thier Great coustomer service and thier fiarly acceptable prices.

No.
Technically the Mushkin is slightly better, due to the lower TRP.
Also, even at exact same specs, i've seen it do better in reviews.
But the difference is so minimal that i'd likely just go for the Corsair to save the $20.
Actually, maybe not.
I haven't looked around too much, but i believe the Mushkin OCs a bit better.

Either way, they are both a poor deal, which is why i mentioned the Team Group option.

That Mushkin was under $300 after rebate not that long ago; i was considering getting it too

anyways, i looked at that teamgroup xtreme ram (read like 20 reviews/oc results). Crazy overclockers for its price...

but I am still looking for best performance for $400... not best deal under $400 (basicaly i got $400 to burn on ram... and i want the best ram I can get... )

just an update for any canadians here...

i talked with guys at ncix and they are going to be stocking Team Group (even the new PC2-6400 2x1GB @ 3-3-3-8 timings).

Also they are going to be stocking the latest g.skill memory aswell.

they said they will have Team Group in 2-3 weeks.
also they will have the HZ g.skill next week.

depending on the price of the Team Group ram, i will get that. Just gonna wait till ncix has prices for it, otherwise I am going to get it from tankguys..
