Hi everyone, I bought a Logitech g502 mouse about 2 months ago. I love it, and I hate it...lol. It has by far the best sensor of any mouse I have ever owned....smooth as silk and super accurate. However I am have 3 problems that I would like to change if possible.

1.) The mouse wheel is pretty slippery. The coating on it reminds me of the coating on teflon frying pans. I was wondering if I could sand the wheel surface or something to give it a better grip.

2. The Right Click button has a slope that is too steep. I play FPSs and sometimes I have to load a weapon by alt fire and hold the button down until I see my target and am ready to shoot. (if you've ever played Unreal Tournament I'm referring to the Goo Gun/BioRifle). If I slip on right click, I'm screwed!!! So I'm wondering if I can rubberize it somehow for a better grip.

3. The Thumb Buttons, Mouse 4 and Mouse 5, are frustrating. The front button is perfect, and the back button SUCKS. I don't think there is much I can do on this issue. I just disabled the back button in the Logitech Gaming Software. The front button is big and easy to click, but the back button is small and not easy to click. Especially in shooter games.

Oh well....

If anyone has experience in modding, or has any tips, I would be very grateful to learn them. Thanks

i'm a FPS player, and i have never seen a review, or heard a complain, about the proteus' buttons - you might have a defective unit. Where did you buy it? You could bring it back and ask to try another unit.

as for the scroll wheel .. you're stuck with that.

Old post, same problem- I have the G502 also, and its fantastic, except for the placement of the back button.

My thumb is just too big, there is not enough space there to prevent unintentional button presses when gripping the mouse. My thumb is always touching it even with a normal grip. I always map the back button to my melee weapon in FPS games, and all too often on the G502, I accidentally hit it when i get into hairy situations. oh, the countless many times its gotten me killed, when I'm melee-ing instead of aiming....

Here's a pic:

So far (it's hard to see in the pic) I have glued some rubber bits on the top left buttons to make them more tactile- and now i'm going to try and disassemble the mouse, and shave the back button down a bit, if its possible.

So its a potential solution, I'll post when I finish the mod, or determine that its not feasible.

Well I now have a fantastic, perfectly functional mouse. However I made a couple of mistakes that created some cosmetic damage- but no biggie for a mouse I paid only $30 US for. The good news is, you can learn from my mistakes and mod your mouse, while keeping it looking great.

Here's what I did:

I took some rubber from a car mat, and cut it into the desired shape. (However, I suspect now that foam rubber tape may have sufficed.)

My first mistake was trying to use 3M spray adhesive. Sprays do not stick immediately, and they are terribly messy (that's why it looks so ghetto in the close ups) but in normal lighting its actually not too noticeable. Super glue, on the other hand, when applied evenly over the rubber works just fine. Just be careful to avoid putting too much on, and you have to be quite precise when placing the rubber, otherwise you will never get it off.

Mistake #2- I probably didn't need to shave down the back button. It's quite functional, but a bit ugly now. Not 100% sure that it was unnecessary, but I would put the rubber pad on first just to be safe and see how it works for you.

Anyway, here's how it ended up- no more accidental back button presses, and the 2 buttons next to the left click are very tactile and I'm always certain what I'm pressing just by feel. No more getting killed in BF5 due to my mouse!
