Advice on notebook computer. (dell especially) any dell power users?

i am looking to buy a new laptop. i really like the inspiron 4150 having see that in person (bought one for my aunt a few months back). but dell has new models now, i think the 4150 are replaced by the 600m. am i correct about that? i dont need a desktop replacement what i am looking for is something decently powerful yet thin and light. the 4150 i bought before was 1.4ghz with 40 gb hd and 32mb video which cost $1350 (1200 after rebate) anywasy the new models price out with about the same specs at $1600+. okay so here are my questions.

1. are the 600m the replacement for the 4150?
2. what is the difference between the 500m to the 600m (size differences specs i cant figure it out)
3. has anyone used both models and have insight on the two note books.
4. any other suggestions ? basically im looking to spend about 1300.

The 600m did replace the 4150. But the 600m is lighter than the 4150. The 500m is a crippled version of the 600m. It has integrated intel graphics. Avoid the 500m. I have the 600m and its great. I originally ordered the one w/ the radeon 9000 32mb. Big mistake, not as fast as the 64mb version. So i retured that one and got a 64mb version. I have no problem running battlefied 1942 at 1024x768 and morrowind. If you are interested in gaming on the notebook, definitely look into the 600m w/ 64mb radeon. If gaming isn't too important the 32mb version will be good enough.

The notebook, is great but its not as sturdy as my previous notebook. The compaq evo n800v. But the 600m is much lighter than the evo.

To answer your 3rd question - the 500 and 600m models are essentially the same except the 500m uses integrated graphics (slow in 3D games).

If they are anything like my Latitude D600, they will have terrible keyboards, but almost all the new Dell notebooks have terrible keyboards.
