Advice on registering and insuring a car pls

This is kind of a long story but I got a question for the car crowd. My friend got a car and can't register or insure it for 45 days. His license was suspended here in NY State and he has been using a California lic to drive and rent cars. The suspensuion happened years ago and finally now he paid the fine, but he has to wait. So he wants me to register and insure he car so he can use it. Is this a crazy idea? Should I have my head examined for thinking about this?

Don't do it. It'll only end up poorly.

The guy took YEARS to pay a fine and have his license reinstated, imagine what could happen if he gets into an accident with a car under your name.

If this guy is your lifelong best friend, then I would consider doing it. Otherwise, don't.

Bad idea. If you had a claim with the insurance that was expensive and they investigated, they might refuse to cover. You also have liability to third parties for damage he caused with the car including personal injury.

You would think so considering he waited years to pay the fine .. must not be in a hurry (I know he was using a Cali lic to drive, but why would u wait that long to pay it.. just seems like hes not real worried about driving.. let him wait I guess unless you want your arse on the line...)

He was living in Europe for the past 10 years or more using the Cali license. He is a lifelong friend, and I will think about it. Maybe it is better that he waits and does it legit. Thanks for the advice BTW.

Yeah. It would be a good idea not to insure and register it on you.
There's always the off-chance that he gets a ticket or wrecks it and
it's on your record.

Look out for numero uno.

Any GOOD friend of mine would surely NOT ask me to put myself out at risk like that. I agree that he can and should wait out the 45 days.
