Advice on replacement psu

While moving house my Antec 550W true power trio psu found it amusing to die mid transit! So I'm now stuck with the unenviable task of replacing it.

The system I am using is as follows.

Core 2 Duo E6600
Asus P5W DH Deluxe motherboard (on board sound)
8800 GTS factory overclocked
2*1gig DDR800 ram
2* Sata2 HD's
Blu-Ray drive


I'm not looking for anything super fancy right now. I've stopped gaming online due to a lot of work increases lately. I basically want something that is cheap, but stable, that will last till the end of the reasonable usability of this pc (hopefully another 2-3 years unless I start gaming again). Low sound would be nice too, but right now price is probably more important for me.

My budget can't really stretch much further than $100, and really I would like to spend as little as possible.

On reading reviews it seems that the Arctic Cooling Fusion 550W PSU would be the best bet for me, or possibly the Tagan Superock if the connectors don't prove good enough on the other. Could anyone throw any extra light on the situation and possibly offer a better/cheaper alternative?

A good quality 400W PSU such as Corsair CX400 would be plenty.

Are you sure that 400W will be enough? the 880GTS rakes a lot of power in, as does the cpu of course. Add on the rest of it it does seem like 400W is quite small. I'm open to suggestions though and I'll certainly look in to it. I'll hunt down one of those psu wattage requirement programs.

I used the Antec PSU requirement calculator and it comes out to around 270 needed, so I guess you are right that 400W would be ample for me even if I choose to upgrade a couple of area's some time.

The Animal is right. The Corsair 400cx is plenty for what you have right now. Even the Antec 430w PSU will do too. It has the same amount of 12v amperage that the Corsair 400cx does.
