my advice to you would buy a dual AMD Opteron based mother board and processors to go with it. they would work better on heavy loads. the x2 is a very good processor but Opteron just fits your type of work. and you said that money is not a big factor so you might just buy 2 dual core opterons and get a lot of ram and have computer that lasts for at least 5 years. opterons are not as good as athlons when it come's to gaming but they are work horses and could hold there own when it comes to gaming. and opterons communicate from one to the other much better than any intel xeon based system.

Thanks for the suggestion, I am not sayinjg that dual opterons will be overkill for my needs because they are not.

I just have 5500$ budget for the whole system including monitor. So, getting dual opterons won't be possible as I am planning to buy this month

Motherboard - Get a DFI SLi-DR instead of that ASUS board. ASUS sucks the big one.

Is that why the Asus A8N SLI motherboard is the motherboard of choice for so many websites, magazines and people?

That is so pathetic.

The Asus A8N nforce 4 is one of the best motherboards for the platform.

zoz123, stick with this motherboard

I am limited by the parts that Mohnarch offer cuz they will build the system for me. I will check if this RAM is available there or not.

As for the Seagate drives, I always liked them over WD but those are 16 MB cash SATA II. I couldn't find something like that by Seagate (at least at Monarch).

As for the cooler, Monarch have the 7000S not the 7700.

dont worry about it. WD is better than Seagate ime.

that's great memory, i'd stick w/ it. no sense in saving 40 bucks when you're spending 4 grand on a computer.

here's a nice article on why getting fast memory is a good thing

Cooltechzone Memory Timings Explained

for the power supply i would go w/ the enermax 600W. it's certified by nVID for SLi.

for the motherboard i would recc the Abit over the ASUS. the DFI although being the best overclocker seems to be more fickle than the Abit and ASUS; but Abit board seems to have slighty better performance at stock speeds than the ASUS.

Zalman over thermaltake for the HSF, quieter is better.

it's a subjective opinion; but you may wanna opt for the microsoft natural elite keyboard, typing is alot easier and i find it works even better for games also.

you don't have to go dual core opteron's to outperform and athlon X2 two opteron 246's or 248's should do the trick. And there are some dual opteron motherboards that go for around 275 to 350 bucks. it might cost you more but it will have enough power to keep up with what you throw at it now and in to the future. And the opteron boards can hold a lot more memory. put the same amout of ram you waht to put in your athlon X2 system in the opteron system and you can put more in later if you need to. Having a dual opteron system to work on would be like having a mini server at you finger tips. that way you know you got enough processing power and enough memory to get your work done.

It fit's in to your $5500 buget barely but it would make one h*ll of a computer. the motherboard according to tyan supports SLI so you can keep you graphics configuation.
It also supports opteron dual core for a future upgrade when prices come down!!!
