That's kinda tough when looking at 1911s. Have u considered Kahr Arms ?

No, it's not. I've bought plenty of 1911's at or under $600.

I've yet to see a high quality, trustworthy 1911 for under $600

I bought a used SA TRP - $450
I bought a used Para P14 - $500 (6 mags!)
I bought a used Stainless Kimber Pro Carry - $500
I PASSED on an STI Trojan at $600
I bought a used Kimber Tac Pro - $600

Wanna rethink that sport? The key to success in life is knowing how to buy stuff.

if u want a used one, then yes u can find a good 1911 for under 600,
but find a range/competition-worthy 1911 NEW for under 600
when i was shopping for mine, the best i found was about 800
but my tastes may be different
when i look for a gun, i want something competition-worthy so i know it's going to last
all of the guns u got are nice, but none of them are under 600 new
i could have bought my TP9 used for 400, but i spent more so i knew the real condition of it.
u can't judge a used gun by the look of it. i know a nuber of people that have guns that they have put thousands of rounds thru yet they still look brand new.
so, atleast for me, i would rather buy a new non-1911 than a used 1911

Get one made by Springfield Armory, they are good guns at a good price.

I own a Mil-Spec 1911, bought it about 4 years ago for $500.

I've also heard alot of good things about the WWII model they make now.

On other gun boards I'm always surprised by people who claim that 1911s arent reliable, and how some people pay $1000+ for a fancy 1911 from some companies and still have problems with it.

My Mil-Spec is stock just the way it was when I bought it and I have had no problems with it. It worked fine out of the box.

What's wrong with used guns? One of the better things to buy used, IMHO, since it takes such a long time to put appreciable wear on a gun.

You didn't read my post did you
Just because a gun doesn't look like its in bad condition doesn't mean it isn't
And I don't really have anything against getting a used one if you know exactly what you are getting.

OP, what is the purpose of your purchase? Carry? Home Protection? Recreation? Collection?

Ok, this isn't AOL. Speak like a grownup.

New under $600? No problem. Para SSP's can be had in that range. Define "competion worthy" please. I'd like to hear what that entails since everyone here shoots USPSA and IDPA here and that .010" of play in the slide to frame fit REALLY makes a difference. I'd just like to mention here that I've shot a Glock 34 and beat people running Les Baers - so don't lecture me about "competition worthy". 9 times out if 10, it's the indian - NOT the arrow.

And YES, I can judge a used gun by the looks of it. I buy guns that way, I buy cars that way, I buy everything that way.

Next.

Rock Island Armory sells a .45ACP 1911 available for $289 from ClassicArms.us If you're looking for a basic 1911, those fit the bill nicely.

Other good handguns for the value are CZ-75s, Springfield Armory XDs, EAA Witnesses, and S&W 4xxx and 5xxx series handguns. The two later can be found very low priced from CDNN's online catalog.

What will you be using this for?

The Witness pistols are excellent for the money and are often overlooked. They are really clones of the CZ made by Tanfoglio.

Right now I'm trying to decide whether to buy a polymer Witness for ~$250 + shipping & FFL fee or a FN Hi Power in .40 S&W for $400 + shipping and FFL fee (both from CDNN).

The 9mm EAA would be a nice plinker, but the polished finish on the HP gives me a petrified forest in my pants.

Decisions decisions. :brokenheart:

Personally, I have a weakness for anything FN. The Hi Power in .40 is supposed to be a very sweet pistol.

Which reminds me....I've got another G1 FAL kit I should get started on.

I've got a weakness for Sigs.

We all have our weaknesses, although I'm slowly switching to the HK side after running a modifed 51.

Yup, the 1991.

But yeah, the 1911 is without question a dated design SA pistol, but it still does the job well and there are tons of parts to make it do it better. It's kind of like the Chevy small block of pistols.

Very true, although I must say that dealing with the Holy Church of the 1911 folks is another story. Good GOD I hate those people. Its like an AMD v Intel debate.

A 1911 and XD are at opposite ends of the spectrum, but if you're trying to make a point that "better" pistols have been made since then, yeah, I'd say your right.
