Affordable notebooks with > 1280x800 display?

Note that i'm in Canada so the range of options on dell.ca/hp.ca don't quite compare to those of dell.com/hp.com.

I was seriously considering the Dell Studio 15 but they've dropped the display options on dell.ca to either the stock 1280x800 or 1920x1200. No customization options on hp.ca at all.

I have corporate channels to purchase either a Dell Latitude E6400/E6500 for a relatively decent price w/ a 1440x900 panel but it's more then i'd like to spend at this point.

For consumer gear, am I stuck with 1280x800?

You're pretty much stuck unless you're willing to buy used.

Lenovo Thinkpad T500 is available with a WSXGA+ (1680x1050) screen. You might also consider one of the Sager CTO options from xoticpc.com -- e.g. the NP7680 or NP2096.

Oh... all of those are 1680x1050 screens. The 1440x900 options seem to be quite limited.

I'd kinda prefer a 14.1" @ 1440x900 but 1680x1050 is nice on a 15.4"... I don't get the 1920x1200 15.4" panels tho.

get the e6400 with the LED screen (WXGA+). i just got one and it is extremely nice! very bright, good color reproduction, and better viewing angles than im used to on other laptops. and the text/icon size is perfect.

Nope... 15.4". The "New" Inspiron 15 is 15.6" tho... not that it has any higher resolution display options either.

It's weird. Not that long ago I remember most of Dell's consumer grade notebooks had a 1440x900 upgrade option priced at a reasonable $50. It seems that ever since the LED backlit stuff came out they've been slashing the display options left, right and center. Arg.
