Same for when the Ottomans tried to take Europe 900 years later after the Umayyad. However look at all the countless wars in Europe that didn't involve muslims. There was scarcely a time when European powers weren't at war with each other, whether it was over territory or religious wars between Catholics and Protestants. Any country that showed internal strife and weakness was a good bet to get invaded in those days.
