and holy hell is my body sore as shit. this is the most pain my body has ever been in from lifting i think. i took off 3 months to let my shoulder recover, and while it's still not 100%, it is much better.

the past 2 nights i woke up in the middle of the night due to soreness. it's hard for me to walk down stairs having to bend my legs. my triceps and biceps feel like they are physically bruised. infact, i think i popped a blood vessel or something on wednesday when i did biceps, because i have a little bump on my right bicep that is tender and runs right along a vein.

i basically did my normal body building routine that i always had done, but i didn't do nearly as high weight (obviously) and was just going pretty light. but i guess i should have eased back into it a bit more and not done quite as many exercises per body part, cause damn, i'm in pain.

i went monday through thursday, and today EVERYTHING hurts lol. i know this always happens when you first go back but this is the longest i've gone without lifting in about 14 years so my body hasn't had to go through this ever basically.

and damn, it's crazy how much strength has been lost. i hope to gain it back pretty quickly though as my weight has not changed much since i stopped lifting, although my muscles feel like jello when i touch them

i hope when i go back monday i'm fully recovered, but somehow i doubt it.

Yeah, it always takes a few weeks to get back into action. I call it the right-of-passage speedbump...if you can push through the kickback period, your body will adapt again. Until then, enjoy feeling like a used punching bag

yeah man it's just ridiculous lol. i did shoulders/traps on monday, and i could not believe how sore my triceps were the next day. and i wasn't even doing heavy dumbells like 50lbs. have to test the recovering shoulder before i can push it. the inside of my elbows and lower biceps feel physically bruised right now. i feel fine sitting still at my desk, but as soon as i get up i remember the pain lol.

but i've completely thrown out my ego at the gym. tuesday i was squatting 225 for working sets, yesterday i had 135 as a working set on the flat bench and 115 as my working set on the incline bench. yesterday i did skull crushers with 25lb plate on each side, and every rep was just pain as my arms came closer to my head because my biceps were being squeezed and just feel bruised.

i hope by week 3 i will be "back to normal" soreness wise. i'm almost positive i won't be fully recovered by monday. usually my soreness comes the worst to the muscle groups 2 days after i do it. i can't wait to see how my chest feels tomorrow...

LPT: walking down the stairs backwards is less painful than walking facing forward down the stairs

Welcome back!

Welcome back Cotter. Studies show that it will take twice as long as your layoff to get that strength back. It's worth it in the end though.

before i took the 3 months off i was already lifting pretty light since i had a nagging shoulder for like a year now, so i hope i can strengthen this up a bit before i start pushing myself harder and can get back to the strength i had prior to any shoulder issues.

You got that major DOMS. Keep stretching the sore areas. Go get a massage if possible, that should help.

i was helping my 8 month old stand on my quads last night and he just kept moving his feet and pushing on them, it felt so good in that somewhat painful deep massage kind of way.

As much as you're going to hate it... if you have a foam roller or a lax ball, roll that puppy over the sore spots. Days after squats, if I'm really sore in the legs, I will foam roll everything. It's torture at the time, but it really does help.

I use the lax ball more on trigger points though now.

After heavy deadlifts I used to have my 9 year old and 12 year old daughters walk on my back. Hurt so good.

They only weigh about 50 lbs each (we're small).

In the absence of a foam roller or LAX ball, you can put the bar in your rack at bench press height and then drape your leg's hamstring area over the bar and let your leg's weight press down on the bar and then move the leg around working out tough spots.

0_0 you even feed those kids???

Yeah, you'd be surprised at how much they eat. They will usually both have 2 burgers and fries at Smashburger or the 11 oz ribeye or 10 oz salmon at Longhorn. I'm only 5'6" and my wife is 5'3" and both of our parents were shorter than us. The younger one usually plays soccer, tennis and baseball while the older one plays tennis and runs 5Ks.

Haha, nice... you're all vertically challenged

I'm not a fan of kids, nor do I really want any but hey if I can get free tissue release by having them stop on my body, that's not too bad.

Wondering if you gain or lose any weight during your time off?

i pretty much stayed the same weight, right around 200 - 204, depending what time of day i weighed myself or what i ate. maybe i went down to like 198 at one point, but after the holidays i'm back to normal lol.

i definitely was eating way less protein. i only took 1 shake for breakfast when i was off. usually i take 3 a day. but i was eating crappier too, so luckily i didn't gain too much. thing is though, i definitely have more belly fat now at this weight than i did before, sot hat kinda sucks. the belly fat i have now is usually the amount of belly fat i have when i'm up around like 210 or 212, so i'm going to try to bulk up a bit this winter than come spring time lose it again.
