After a new mouse!

Hi Guys,

I'm new to this forum, just stumbled upon it while trying to find a new mouse actually! I have had a G7 mouse for about a year and it has been an absolute blast for gaming but unfortunately it seems the radio receiver is playing up in it, every now and then the mouse loses connectivity and i have to wait about 30 seconds for it to start working again (You can imagine how annoying this is while gaming!). So I have decided it is time to start searching for a new mouse! When it comes to computer parts I am quite particular and usually do a bit of researching before purchase, so I ask the questions, what mice have you guys used? What mice have been the best for you? do you recommend wired over wireless? And whats the absolute king of mice as far as your concerned?

Looking forward to some great responses!

If you really have had the G7 for only "about a year" it should still be under warranty and you should be able to get it fixed/replaced for free.

i use the deathadder now, ive always had logitech and when my MX1000 died i bought a MX revolution and promtly returned it as it was the most pathetic mouse ive ever used, it was unresponsive and felt cheaply made. i got the deathadder and ive been pleased with it ever since.

Its all about prefrence really so if you can try some out before you buy just to get a feel of em.

So far from what I am asking, people are saying the death adder is the best, gonna look into it a little further though. I read that apart from the DPI the Lachesis was a bit of a let down

Do you have your receipt ? ? ? .. Logitech has a 3 Year warranty on that model .... see link below

http://logitech-en-amr.custhel...d_adp.php?p_faqid=3220

Even without the receipt, they can tell the age by the Serial # but you may need to send them a picture / fax of the serial

Call them .. nothing to lose except some time on the phone:

Support / Warranty Claims Tel: 1-646-454-3200

Thanks for that bruceb! Logitech isnt open at the moment, so I sent them an email asking if I can still get warranty. Fingers crossed I can as the G7 is a great mouse!

Anyways, Cheers for the help

you should be able to get a new mouse. They will probably make you send in the receiver and/or the mouse part of it and send you a whole new one.

For instance, I had a G5 and all I did was call them up and tell them that my mouse button wasn't clicking right, they sent me a new G5 no questions asked.

And also my Z-5500 Optical inputs weren't working on my control pod so they just made me send the old control pod and the remote for it back to them and they sent me a brand new system. I still have all the extra speakers and the 10" subwoofer from my older system.

Logitech Warranty = the most impressive warranty system ever.

Ya thats happened twice for me, all they asked for was the speaker wire back, ended up with 3 Z5500 sets I dont think they actually can replace control pods anyways, none of the newer pods work with older speakers and vice versa. Has to be the same PID number.

Thats awesome to hear! I was impressed when i saw that they have a 3 year warranty on their gaming mice. Ive been looking around to buy a Razer DeathAdder but apparently its discontinued with most stores.

I've had both revision 1 and revision version of the G5. The red one was in usef for about 4 years before I replaced it with the second revision. Both work flawlessly for me. Besides that for gaming I would have to have wired mouse and keyboard.

Yup, which is why I mentioned checking in the first place. They might not make the best mice (at least IMO) but its hard to beat that warranty service.

Which brings me to your comment about the DeathAdder...I seriously doubt it is being discontinued as I'm pretty sure the DeathAdder is easily one of Razer's biggest sellers and is extremely popular because it is one of the best.

Heck, the pitfalls of most laser mice and the success of the DeathAdder forced Logitech not only to keep the MX518 in their line, but also to update it to better compete...

I live in Aussie. I called places like Eb games, gamesmen, jb hi fi, most of them used to stock it but don't anymore. I can still get it but I will probably need to order it off ebay. No biggie though.

I just bought the mx1100. I'm not sure if I like it yet. The biggest problem is the scroll wheel. It feels too loose and wiggles around more than I like.

To update while the scroll wheel hasn't gotten any tighter I'm getting used to it now and I absolutly love being able to switch between click scroll and hyper scrolling modes.

The G7 has the best mouse wheel I have ever used. It rotates up and down like a normal wheel and it also clicks down, giving you a third button in the middle, and on top of that it moves left and right, so you can scroll left and right when in documents and you can assign the left and right movements of the wheel to weapons etc in game. very handy.

I guess being in a more isolated part of the world can be the cause of something like that, but I'd still be more inclined to believe those stores are simply out of stock or they're willingly stopping supply of them due to poor sales in the region. There's no way Razer is discontinuing the DeathAdder unless they're replacing it completely with an upgraded unit that I don't know about.

No MX revolution love here? I love that mouse. The scroll wheel is the best known to man bar none.

The MX isn't really a good gaming mouse.

OP - I have the G7 and thankfully is still running strong. I had a similar problem a while ago too. I ended-up uninstalling and reinstalling the latest drivers. No problems since. If I had to get a new one, it would be a G9.

Logitech's Customer Service is the BEST. They replaced something I had LOST under the "warranty". Anyway, my story aside... have you looked into getting a new receiver instead of a mouse?

The receiver I lost was for my LX8 and I got a replacement receiver from ebay at ~$20 (incl. S&H). I did a quick search in ebay, but couldn't find it. If anything, I can hook you up with the person that got me my receiver as he gets the replacements directly from Logitech - he might be able to get you a spare part too

Just PM me if you're interested

Edit - on an second thought, contact Logitech's customer service first. Whether the mouse is outside warranty or not, they might still get you a replacement (maybe even free of charge?)

Really? The G7 was okay but the MX blows it away. I even tried the G9 but found myself going back to the MX. The shape of the G9 is just too weird. (too wide)

I love the G9. It was a little weird to get use to the feel for a week and was starting to think I never would. I've gone through 3 MS Intellimouse 3.0s since 2004, and they felt similar to a lot of the Logitech and Razer mice when I was shopping for a new one. Now though when I feel the Intellimouse on my old pc, it feels weird.

G9 has been nothing but spectacular to me since I got use to the feel. I was hesitant at first thinking it was too complicated and overkill with its multitude of features, but I've found them all to be extremely useful and don't think I could live without them if I was forced to use a mouse that didn't have them.
Profiles saved on the mouse memory for multiple OS/PC use, buttons that can be made into keyboard keys or macros for this endless supply of recent console ports that have control rebinding issues, strong tethered cord that will hopefully save it from the cord severing at the mouse eventually that plagues many other mice; that was the cause of 2 of my intellis failing. Different grips, customizable weights, and tons of buttons; the mouse has really impressed me and exceeded my expectations. Highly recommended if you don't need a wireless, I play a lot of fps games online so wired is a must.
