After LOTR, The Hobbit?

After Jackson finishes with the last LOTR movie, since he's already got most of the setwork still relatively intact from LOTR, do you believe that he should go ahead with making "The Hobbit" next? Or should they just stop with the last LOTR movie and call it quits? Personally, after seeing the first two of the LOTR series, I'm dying to see the last one, and then after that I'm dying to see them make The Hobbit into a movie too. What do you think?

1) He already said he wasn't going to do it.
2) Personally I think the cartoon version is nearly perfect. It was meant as a children's tale after all ...

I'm sure some first rate knockoff will try it though, and it'll suck massive ass. I don't think they'll ever be able to make The Hobbit and have it live up to the hype that the LotR movies have.

Awe bummer. That's too bad. I think Jackson did an excellent job on the LOTR series. WETA did an excellent job too! Hats off to them.

I would really love to see a live action version of The Hobbit personally, but we'll see.

No, the book that Bilbo was writing was called "There and Back again - A hobbits Holiday". Bilbo talks about writing it near the end of The Hobbit when he's returning to Hobbiton.

ah i get it... so it is like about bilbo's adventures, the ones that are referrered to in LOTR. cool.. maybe i will read it some time.

I believe its called a Hobbit's tale.

I'd never read the Hobbit or any of the Lotr trilogy, so I read the Hobbit before I went to see Fotr, and it helped, gave me a sense of who people were, and a little backstory on some of the characters.

I think the Hobbit would make a fantastic movie. I just read it for the 2nd time, and I don't see it as just a "book for kids". PJ would have to do it though. And after the 1st three...I think it would pack the house.

I hope Peter Jackson changes his mind. Maybe in a few years after all the LOTR hype dies down a bit, he might wanna be in the spotlight again, and "BANG!", the Hobbit will be produced live action style.

where did he say he wasn't going to do it. On the Extended DVD he says he's going to take a break but hadn't decided if he wanted to do Hobbit or not. Part of him really wants to and part of him is interested to see what someone else would do with it. I also read that it may be a while because there is some issue on who owns the rights to the movie. Like New Line owns the production rights but some other company still has the rights to the story or something... not sure

Actually, PJ said he wouldn't do it on the Director's Commentary for the EE, I think. Sometime in the movie, someone brought up The Hobbit, and he said something along the lines of "Let someone else do it so he can get torn up by the fans, etc."
I'm pretty sure thats where I heard it.

I think the hobbit would do better than LotR in the theaters just because its a whole movie in itself, you dont have to wait for a year in between parts . I wish they would make it! That would be so great! Esp the battle of 5 armies! OMG that would be crazy. One of my distant aunts worked on the set of LotR (key grip or smth like that, she was in charge of lighting I think) and if she gets hired back for another movie I will let you know . And no, I am not form New Zealand but my grandma is so I am related to 25% of New Zealanders, lol.

I think they would have to market a film version of "The Hobbit" quite differently than they've marketed LOTR, or else people that were unfamiliar with Tolkien before the LOTR trilogy would probably be disappointed in it.

I think adults and children can enjoy "The Hobbit" but the story is definitely more simplistic and fairy tale-esque compared to the trilogy.

I saw the cartoon version of The Hobbit, and I was disappointed. Rumor has it that Ralph Bakshi (Wizards, Fritz the Cat) attempted a version of it, that's the one I would love to see.

I'd like to see them try and film the Silmarillion. They'd cast Richard Gere for Radagast the Brown.

Yea, in the movie its called "...Hobbit's tale"....but in the books its "Hobbit's Holiday"
