I don't think Hangouts is going to get updated until Google IO, that's just a gut feeling though. Besides, Android has the official GV app, so calling and texting are still fine. It's platforms like Windows Phone that are kinda screwed by this (I don't consider the method of having to dial multiple numbers as a workable day to day solution).

Did Google update GV to let you make voice calls from the app? For a long time, this was an iOS-only feature.

No. I just set GrooveIP not to auto update on my phone.

Also this thread that was about Windows Phone has kinda turned into Android as well....

Yes you can use the Google Voice app for Texting over either the Phone's SMS or over Data/Wifi and calling over the phone's voice network only. Also checking for voicemail over Data/Wifi yet.

At the moment you cannot make calls over Data/Wifi with the Hangouts app on Android until an update. It's coming, just was released on iOS first.

Also supposedly all the stuff in the seperate Google Voice app will be merged into Hangouts and while Hangouts does support SMS it's over the phones SMS network and not over Data/Wifi.

His last G+ update was April 22nd which was about the last Hangouts update.

Also if Devs make use of the new API then Windows Phone should continue to get G-Voice calling once XMPP is disabled.

No one can hear me.

Others are reporting this in the Google Voice Forums. <-- Not just people using GrooveIP either.



Maybe it's happening in groups at a time?

At least Google finally released a real API so maybe MetroTalk & GrooveIP will come out with an update.

Which google voice forums do you follow? I'm curios as to why metrotalk still works while others don't. Are all the VoIP users now cut off from gv?

I hear ya. I'm waiting for it to break any day now to be honest. I was actually about to get the Lumia 1520 when I realized I wouldn't be able to load metrotalk since he took it off the app store.
