So I am starting to think that win 10 is going to be a dud OS along the lines of vista etc. Will MS bring out a newer windows OS soon if this is the case? Possibly windows 11?

10 is the shiznit and will be with us for a long time so get used to it. Vista was a horrible OS and bloated beyond belief, whereas 10 is sleek and fast.

Pure speculation, but I'm guessing the Redstone release(s) will mostly just be an advancement of what is already in place without any radical changes. Then whatever codename comes after (early 2017?) will feel like more of an overhaul and try to break new ground.

I still don't get where people are saying it's a dud OS...it has a better growth rate that Windows 8.1 or 8 had, IIRC.

Does that include all the semi-forced upgrades? I'm not so sure so many people would have upgraded if Windows didn't pester them the way it did.

Not saying that Win10 is bad, just saying that the comparison might not be fair to Win8.

I have a strange mix of feelings towards Windows 10. So far it has been incredibly fast and stable. Everything on my 6+ year old motherboard (which doesn't even have Win8 support) worked flawlessly without manually installing any drivers.

On the other hand, there's a lot about the UI I really don't like. Some stuff seems to be in rather strange places and I am a little concerned about arbitrary changes MS may make down the road. There's a surprising lack of polish that almost makes it feel like a step back in some ways.

It will probably be 10.1, 10.2, 10.3... small incremental releases that are released annually with cheap (or possibly free) upgrades.

Basically, they are copying Apple's OS release strategy for the past 10 years.

Microsoft will try to make up the loss in revenue from their App Store, cloud storage, Bing, and Office 365. Windows 10 seems to push those services pretty hard.

To be fair with Win10 updates are automatic, so upgrades will probably be same thing.

Every win 10 PC I have installed myself is totaly fine. Lots of people call the tech support line I work for with problems with win 10. Mostly because they infected themselves with malware or just dont know how to use win 10 or search google.

I reserved the free update for eligible machines and reverted back to previous OS'es. There will be a number of more updates before Windows 10 becomes mature and more polished. Do you feel like a beta tester? I don't.

The only complaints I have had on W10 so far have been related to drivers, and specifically video card drivers, and specifically AMD. Outside of that, I have no complaints and see no reason to complain. W10 is notably superior to 7, 8, and 8.1.

after windows 10 there is going to be nothing else from microsoft

I'm waiting for Windows 365... $$$

I still don't get where people are saying it's a dud OS...it has a better growth rate that Windows 8.1 or 8 had, IIRC.

I think a lot of that has to do with the 'free' upgrade to W10, and it's self-installing properties in WU. Most common users probably just check all the 'agree' boxes during WU... and woke up with W10.

It's obvious W10 is a mixed bag... it does some things better, MS has taken some things away (WMC and games, for example.) Then there is the telemetry issue. It's definitely not XP...

Same here. It's also incredibly ugly. I mean, why can't UI's be pretty? You're staring at them all day, after all. A tiny bit of color, a gradient, a playful bubbly icon... Sometimes I miss my Windows 7.

Same reason some hate Vista which was a decent OS especially with the service packs, the problem they should look it is how they are going to handle Microsoft Operating Systems once their Win7 is RIP.

As to Win10 and UI?.. It's a fine OS IMHO, UI you can spruce it up yourself, even Stardock has WindowBlinds coming out for it soon.
Don't forget Win10 themes, and if you are like me and use Firefox, well they have the best browser themes out there period.

Also ditch your TN panel and get a VA/IPS if you want better colours ( with hardware colour calibration tool) .
Well that did not take long to fix, next thread .

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some people don't want bubbly colorful icons.

I actually prefer the windows 10 interface to previous OS's. The thin edge borders mean I can get more meaningful content on my screen at a given time in lieu of the thick borders.

That setting can be adjusted in the usual way on Vista/7 but not on Win8x and probably not 10 either.

After Windows 10 what? Going back to Windows 7, or what!
It looks like as if Microsoft were planning a substitution service of some sort. But if anybody here is on a first name basis with Bill Gates or the current CEO, what was his name. They might give you some more definite clue.
