I heard the Thermalright Shaman was good, but I can't find it anywhere
Any suggestions?

I had posted earlier asking the same thing. More importantly, does anyone know if Visiontek will void the warranty if you have an aftermarket cooler installed?

I seem to remember that for older xx50 cards, you could leave the base of the stock cooler attached to the card. You just removed the shroud, fan and GPU sink, but the metal base stayed on to cool the VRAM and voltage regulators. Does anyone know if this is possible with the 6950?

I ask because I had an AC Twin Turbo on a 4870 previously, but the VRAM and voltage regulator sinks didn't adhere well, so it seems like a better solution to leave the base from the stock cooler attached, and just using the AC GPU cooler.

What temps are you getting (idle/load)? Have you flashed to 6970?

I didn't flash to a 6970 bios as I didn't want it forcing the memory to run 6970 speed and timings.

instead I just drop the bios from the card and shader unlocked it then reflashed. I just used MSI afterburner to switch to 880/1375 and 1.175 vcore when it detects a 3d game running. Performance is great and card runs very cool and no issues.

These are my temps with the AC Twin Turbo Pro installed.

I'm also on dual monitors so my idle temps are abit higher than on a single monitor as my clocks only drop to 450/1250 instead of like 150/300.

Max load i've seen in furmark is 72c max load in game is around 60c.

There is a difference between the AC Twin Turbo and the AC twin Turbo Pro.

With the pro installed on my 6950 I installed the VRM heatsinks but didn't even bother with the memory sinks cards runs fine so far without it.

So would the Zalman VF3000A fit the 6950 2gb? and how about twin turbo pro?

Not sure about the Zalman as I have never tried it someone who has will have to post.

As for the second question I already answered that like 3 times in this thread please read it.

With the Twin Turbo Pro, would I need to order the VR001 sink kit? (for XFX 6950 2GB) It states you need it for the 6850 but I don't know what physical differences there are between the 68xx and 69xx series. Mwave has VR002-005 kits but not the VR001...

I have a shaman on my 6950 and it is a great cooler. The fan is super quiet and it allows me to go to 950 @1.25 and keeps the card cooler than the stock cooler was at stock clocks. The one thing is that it does take up a lot of room in the case.

Same with the AC twin turbo pro takes up about 2 1/2 slots on my board. But worth it since i'm only on a single card config and its super quiet and has great thermals.

Cool, good to know. I do have a TT Pro hanging around, but was paranoid after I had a 4870 die due to bad adhesion on the heatsinks. I'm going to pick up some Enzotech heatsinks and try out the TT Pro once I pick up a 4950.
