i joked , i now that 512 is not to much for doom 3, but i am happy that i have 512 , before 6800 i had ati 9800pro and tried with 1gb ram, there was only 3-4 fps on plus (with 1gb)

well doom3 uses more than 512 RAM, which probably has a lot to do with your FPS problem.

BTW, its "know", not "now"

I'm running D3 on a 2200+ XP @ 1600x1200, high quality, with a Gainward 6800GT.

It looked great, but stuttered like crazy when I was about to go into a new area. I tried all the tweaks (and turned AA/AF off), but nothing worked. Then I doubled my RAM from 512 to 1024 (PC2700) and that made the difference! Transitioning areas is now smooth as silk! I still get a severe framerate drop when several baddies spawn and the action gets intense, but I think that's a function of my older proc.

But I can say that it was most worth it to increase my RAM.

at those settings, i get the same fps. its normal. OC the card 10% and it should boost it a bit. i have pretty much the exact same setup. an A64 REALLY helps. and the other half a gig of ram.

Have you also tried disabling AGP Fastwrite ? it was night and day difference for me for stutters ...

Hi - yes, I read numerous boards and tried all the tweaks. I considered the "stuttering" to be a drop in frames when turning a corner or going into a new area (behind a door). Doubling my RAM fixed that. The framerate drops I get now only happen when a lot of baddies suddenly start appearing. Once they are there, it's reasonably smooth. I really suspect this has to do with my older processor trying to add these new elements to the environment.

But I'd always be interested to hear other suggestions!

Disabling fastwrites fixed the stuttering for me when I turned a corner and when baddies appear.
