I had fun PVPing in the game, I played with two others and we had a blast. There were some very epic small group fights in certain areas and it was pretty satisfying. I like PVP though since UO and haven't played Conan in awhile so I'm not sure what changes have been made to it.

Lobbing someone's head off is good fun.

Just a follow up on this. I gave up on the game last night after 22 levels. There's a lot about it that is awesome. The game is very pretty, and I love the combat mechanics, and the old-school play style.

On the negative side I really hate the way the game is structured around little hubs with instances hanging off of them. After 22 levels in Tortage I finally killed Strom and got out to Khemi only to find another little hub with instances. And pretty much every instance offers you "normal or epic" choices when you enter. Completely killed the immersion for me. I also didn't like the look of my character very much. A lot of the stuff that dropped in Tortage was just ugly, and the character animations were almost comical in some areas, like running. A stooped, bowlegged posture does not befit a hero .

Lastly, I really think that funneling new players through small, heavily scripted startup areas is a design mistake. Other games are following the same path, and I really don't like it. One reason is that it makes the idea of starting another character seem like a real chore. Ugh, another 22 levels in Tortage. I much prefer having a choice of startup zones and paths.

I played it free for a month after it came out. Thought the direction combat in pve was clunky. Of course you'd always max stack for incoming and hit minimum for outgoing, so what purpose did it really serve.

They might have updated it a bit since then, not sure, but it seemed to work pretty well. If you just kept slashing from the right, for example, your damage would go down as the enemy defended in that direction, whereas if you changed things up you would do more damage.

Anyway, main thing for me was real-time combat vs. target-click. I haven't played any MMOs previously where you have to swing weapons, and I like it a lot better than just targeting and hitting combos.

It was an interesting change from normal just hit a button. But when I played you would always have an indicator where the npc is defending at and where he is about to swing at and I never came across a situation where maximizing my characters position in that exchange was difficult.

Duel boxed a Priest of Mitra and a Tempest of Set when it first came out, got them to 80 pretty quickly.
