I played through a 7-day trial of this game and while the gameplay was as repetitive as every other modern MMO, the combat was inventive and made the game somewhat interesting. I realize that I probably will not be looking at a long-term game, but I enjoy MMOs and I have played and tossed most of the mainstream ones and I don't particularly enjoy KMMOs.

The one problem that I had is that the client would crash after about an hour of playing. This could be an issue with the trial client. As anyone ever had this issue with the real client?

I'm currently on a 14d trial myself thru file planet and am having a blast - up to level 58 and only about half way through

game is easily the best looking MMO and one of the best looking PC games I've seen, period, especially in DX10. As far as crashes I've not had any except for driver problems with too much overclocking, once I fixed that no crashes. There is a huge memory leak tho I think, after playing for like 10 hours straight the game/os gets really sluggish.

i should say running for 10 hours straight, and its probably more like 8 when it starts to get really bad

What DX10 card are you using? I have the game installed on the system in my gig and the game only wants to run in windowed mode and when i force it into full screen the game flickers like mad.


Lopping of heads really looks good full screen 1680x1050 and i want to keep doing so

I've heard similar problems and they said it was related to CF

I have just a single GTX260 with no problems.

my trial ran up finally last night, I managed to get level 78 before it was up though, now I'm going to pay the 19.99 for the 1 month and see where that takes me.

I've only heard of the problem from people in Trial chat, never anything on forums.

People with CF setups all said if they enabled DX10 they got flickering shadows and lighting.

Try with a single card

10 hours straight in a MMO is kind of like doing one quick race, or doing 1/10th of a level in a shooter. It may sound like a lot, but in the scope of the game it is rather trivial and shockingly easy to do

You can still disable CF on a X2 card, just disable catalyst AI and it runs with 1 core only.

EDIT: I jsut wanted to ask as well, how is the game now at 80? I heard before there were massive imbalances and such. Has anyone done pvp at 80? I had a lot of fun with my HoX before I quit, I thought it was one of the most creative classes I had played in a mmorpg.

Ok i will try that out I'm only a lvl 20 HoX and I play on a pve server so i cant really answer that question. That said i really hope that this game doesn't fall into the pvp trap that WOW is in trying to balance the game around pvp and pve which means both groups will be unhappy

I PVPed at 62 and 71 in the 60-79 bracket and it seems pretty balanced to me in the Minigames, and was quite fun.

My friend who plays 80 necro and conq says its pretty fun, I'll report back with first hand expriences when I actually PVP some @ 80

My last session with the game was several months ago. I have a lvl 40 Tempest of Set. I've been watching the new patches but haven't resubbed yet. Any older players ( I was a launch player ) care to give any comparison to then and now?

Just to update

I now have 2 level 80s a ranger and a hox, both are good, but I enjoy my HoX more

anyways to gameplay at 80:
the raids are great, I've seen all the current content already BRC Wings 1-3 (including killing leviathus) and all the T1 mobs, I quit wow around BWL, and I'd say some of these fights are a challenge compared to BWL even, and the T2 fights are really cool cause they're not tank & spank at all

I did this all with pickup groups btw it was really hard, but the players in AoC are some of the best I've played with in general

as for PVP at 80, I tried a few times, but there is a guild on our server who exploits and hacks (allegedly get things like 100% crit rate etc) and they are always running 6 mans in pvp minigames or in the border regions, plus they exploit to win in siege warfare, so I gave up on that pretty fast

basically going to stick it out and see how long the raiding keeps me interested.

I guess with the collector's edition available for $10 now would be a good time to try this game.

I haven't played a MMORPG for a while. How would AoC run on my X2 6400+ and 8800 Ultra?

If August 2008 was any indication, pray you're lucky.

I quit at that time but had an X2 6000+, 4 Gb RAM, 8800GT on Vista 64 and couldnt get it to run well. Stepped up to an HD4870 and still the same problems.

Forums were filled with people who had weaker systems that ran better than mine and people with much more powerful systems that had the same problem.

Might have changed by now!

Wow, this game is still going? I played at launch but quit soon after. The loot sucked and I didn't really like the instanced zones. Have they changed either of those two things?

I'm at level 49 (Dark Templar) and kind of hit a wall. I feel like there is a lot of side questing to do with out much pay off. Every now and then I get the itch and log in for a few hours. At this point I'm mostly just donating $15/month to Funcom.

everyone that's amazed with the graphics should also check out lord of the rings online. the dx10 graphics in that game are pretty slick. but it is solely focused on PVE... there is pvp... but... it's not really comparable to most other pvp in mmo's.
