Hopefully there will be more than the base campaign in this. Also if it's just remastered the online gameplay is going to be a little stale, so hopefully the single player will have some decent campaigns.

That's the first pc game I ever bought with my own cold hard-earned cash. Played it on a Pentium 1 90hz processor with 16MB of RAM and a 1.44GB hdd. Upgraded the RAM to a beastly 48MB to handle it a little better.

Game would lock up my pc after the population sizes started booming late game.

I will be buying this remake.

This is a remaster of the original Age of Empires plus the Rise of Rome expansion. Looks like they will be updating some gameplay elements to bring it into modern times so it's not just a visual refresh.

Was a big fan of purchasing "remastered" versions of my favorite RTS games but found little/no increase in satisfaction playing the latter over the original.

I loved Age of Empires II and didn't play much of the first one, as I recall. This looks neat but if I picked it up I'm quite sure I'd either not even play it or hardly play it at all. Just got too many other games and things to hold my attention.

Should've done II instead. They did mention it will feature improved gameplay which should mean there are going to be elements from the 2nd installation. That thing looks neat, though most of it revolves around visuals. Just a thought...this is what facebook games will look like in another few years.

How they'll look maybe, but they'll never have as much in depth gameplay.

Yeah it got pushed back, which I'm fine with. Better to fix those issues before release rather than after. My guess is it'll release in March.

I am very much looking ofrward to this, however, I am not a huge fan of how AOE II HD turned out. Sure, it's high res, but you cannot manually change your res, if you wanted to, and also, even though the res is better, the game plays like an ancient relic. It just doesn't "feel" anything like newer RTS. It feels extremely slow, even at fastest speed. It takes forever to get from one point of the map to the other... So annoying.

Yeah that's the great thing about the game, it's slower and the games can take a while. I thought this article explained it very good.

I wish we had another Empire Earth. I loved the scale of those games but the game was far too fast-paced for my taste. It seemed there were only two or three useful eras which were used to just keep the opponent at a standstill economically until you could rush into space-age. I remember rushing to Civil just to pump out cannons and left a horde of them sitting outside my opponent's base to knock down their resources while I spammed the space-age helicopters. It was a guaranteed win every time and once a few other people adopted that same strategy, it became an APM-fest which I didn't enjoy.

I actually don't like fast paced games. But compared to more recent RTS, this one moves at a snail's pace.

Well you're talking about a game made in 1999. Of course it will be a slot slower than modern RTS games. Just because it was given a nice coat of paint to the graphics, doesn't mean the engine will be sped up.

I don't think I ever played the first one. I played II all the time and in college we did 6 player lan. I believe 3vs3 were you had to kill a players king.
