Would you be able to tell the difference between a 60 gb agility vs intel g2 ssd in real world situations?

Depends on your real world usage but also on what machine you're running it on.

Either will be light years better than any spindle based drive you're using, but the difference between the two will not be tangible IMO unless you have a high end PC (i5 or higher) IMO. Even then the slower agility would make a lot of people sufficiently happy IMO.

Do you run server apps? This includes web servers, MySQL, private servers, etc, etc. If not, then no.

I have a laptop with a C2D 1.8 ghz and 2 gigs of memory.

I installed the Agility 60 gb on this laptop and I had a 150 GB 7200 rpm hard drive on it.

I can definitely feel a difference, but I was expecting WOWZOR@!#@#@ performance. I just do stuff for school... spreasheets, word docs, power points, etc.

I was considering buying an Intel or Agility for my desktop (specs in sig) and I basically do the same things for my desktop as on my laptop except for games.

Nah, the difference isn't that noticeable between the Agility and the X-25M for what you want to do. I feel somewhat similarly to you - yes, there's a difference with an SSD, but it's not revolutionary. Everything is snappier, but with the exception of my boot time and shut down time, it's nothing I couldn't live without. I switch between an SSD at home and a regular HDD at work, so it's not like I'm just forgetting what it felt like to use an RPM drive.

Not everyone agrees, of course.

From the various stories and post online, I think that

You can tell the difference if you reboot alot and if you load big apps like MS Office Database, large PPT files, large PDF files, Adober Acrobat Pro, Photoshop (and I suppose the whole CS suite). Mayb the apps start in 2-5 seconds less on the X25.

However if you've bought the Agility and never used the X25, I don't think you'll even care. It's too darn fast to bother.

Unlikely you could really tell without benchmarking them.

I can't tell the difference between my skill and intel G1 in normal desktop use. The thing which gives it away easy though is the write speed. Otherwise both of them are a massive difference to using a HDD.

I use G1's, G2's, Agility's, Vertex's on a daily basis and really can't tell that much of a difference. It isn't like going from a spindle disk to SSD and is instead much less noticible.

If resale in the near future for other upgrades is a concern, I would go with the Intel. Having bought and sold many SSD's over the past 18 months I've found the Intels to hold their value compared to retail quite a bit better than the others.

That's about to change with Intel's new SSD technology coming up this year.

Thats the key! Sell them as close to the release of the new tech as possible and you recoupe a large portion of your investment to pick up the next one! Especially if you work that bing money!
