Just got the chip in today. It's a 1600+ AGOIA (maybe W, totally forgot to check) from newegg. Ordered it on 7/31.
was running:
Athlon TBird @ 10 * 100 (non overclocked)
Alpha PAL 8045 heatsink
Shuttle AK31a ver. 3 kt266a mobo
256 DDR ram from hynix
400watt Antec PSU PP-412X
I'm now running the same config, just swapped in the 1600+ part and cranked the FSB to 166(max).
I'm now at 1746 mhz.
I knew when I bought my components that I was planning on overclocking, but could never get my old processor to do much, so I've been running at stock for the past year and a half. I'm very glad now that I spent the extra wad for the 400 watt PSU and the heatsink at the time. Now that I felt like I needed to upgrade a bit, only $68 gave me a 75% improvement in clock speed from my old processor.
Grab these babies at newegg whilst you still can! especially if you're looking to add some more life to your KT266A mobo!
oh yeah, my temps went down 7 degrees celsius after the upgrade (and after picking all the lint out of the heatsink).
I'm now at 43 degrees celsius, with the overclock. running a ys tech fan.
