AGP or PCI-e

Are there any good articles on the arguments for PCI-e? I'm currently looking to upgrade my PC and am wondering if I should go for AGP and keep my existing card (GF 4400ti), or go PCI-e and get a new GFX card. A year or so down the road, will AGP be that much slower, that being forced into getting a AGP card be a problem?

Thanks

dont bother with agp anymore. agp is nearing its death. no more agp mobos will be made and expect agp to die entirely by the time the yr ends. vid card companies will still make some agp vid cards til then, but dont expect a good variety. pci-e, sadly, is the way to go now.

Then again... PCI express is a new technology... but it ain't gonna last too long either..lol. So, I would hang on to your computer for two more years and by-pass alll these bus types...hehe. AGP will be around for a while on cheaper motherboards with the less expensive and more mature chipsets. Obviously people will need replacement boards and so on. Expect in the next 2 years to not see AGP around much any more... except on ebay ;-)

I did go with PCI-E but the problem is availablity of cards and cost of the current vedio cards. I am glad I went this way but we are going through a transition right now so it can be costly.

If you have a good AGP card such as a 9800 Pro or better, stick with AGP for the moment.

If you have a obselete card such as your ti4400, get a PCI-E mobo and a nice PCI-E video card like the 6600GT.

AGP. PCI-e is not yet cost effective. Get a 6800 GT. By the time you need a new VC, you'll need a new MB anyways.

This is an excellent suggestion if you're looking in the 6800GT range or higher. However, if you buy a 6600GT and PCIe board, for example, you pay about the same as with AGP components (AGP 6600GTs are slightly more expensive than PCIe ones, but single-graphics card PCIe boards are the same or more expensive than AGP boards). There's also the currently-vaporware X800XL, which will become attractive once it gets down to at least $350-400 after it's available ($300 is the MSRP).

pcie. by the time you upgrade, pci-e will be the only viable choice in a year or two for high end cards.

Ya those 6800GT's PCI Express cards are pretty expensive. Pretty close to the price of a 6800 Ultra. You can get a LEadtek AGP 6800Gt for a little under $400
