AGP question

Well after the 5th reinstall of win98se (those via drivers are impossible to get rid of), I am now running with no via drivers whatsoever, except the bus master mini drivers. System is MUCH faster now. the only thing is gaming performance seems a bit slower then it was. Is anyone running those viagart drivers? (vagp405c.zip) Could lack of install of these be causing the gaming slowdown? Also do i need the file viaagp4xon.reg from via's site to turn on 4x agp?

System still has problems when cranking up the agp aperture size to higher than 64mb. which im still banging my head againist the wall about.

I am not sure why you want to get rid of the VIA drivers. You are using a VIA KT266A chipset and is almost essential to load the VIA 4in1 to get your system stable. The latest version is 4.35.

Can you shed some light as to why you do not want the via drivers? Maybe you would have been better of with other chipsets, SIS735, AMD761 or the nforce.

The system is EXTREMELY sluggish with the 4in1 drivers installed. Is why I dont want them installed. The system acts like my old p2 266 with the latest 4in1's..

oh and btw.. the 11/20 bios fixed the agp aperture size. and..

i downgraded to the 21.83 geforce3 drivers... much faster than 22.80 or 22.50.. no idea why though.
