first, the specs of the system

biostar m7vit pro
amd athlon xp1600+
sb live! oem
creative modem blaster 56k
lite on dvd
sony cdrw
wd 40gb hd
GF2 (working)
radeon 9100 (resource problem)

ok, the system works perfectly with the gf2 installed. when the radeon was put in, windows detected it, installed the drivers, but its getting a resource problem.

the resources check out, except:
I/O range C000 - C0FF

i couldnt get any info on the gf2 resources, its my brothers box and he was at work, and i couldnt find the card when i was there; should i get him to put it in and check THOSE resources too?

anyway, the VIA agp 2.0 to 3.0 controller has the following I/O ranges
C000 - CFFFF
03B0 - 03BB
03C0 - 03DF

is the agp controller using what the card needs? or does that just specify the ranges available to the installed agp card?
windows has the "use automatic settings" checked and greyed out so i cant uncheck it to manually adjust the settings for the radeon

what can i do? what can i try? hes ready to reinstall windows at the drop of a hat, but id prefer to fix the problem, as opposed to start from scratch and potentially have it again

thanks

eerie, I was just about to post about this very problem. I've been fiddling with the M7VIT Pro and the Visiontek 9100 setup for about five days now and I can't get the 9100 to work in Win XP for the same reason: Code 12, not enough resources. I've disabled every onboard feature of the M7VIT Pro, from the onboard audio to the usb controller and reinstalled Win XP Pro. The 9100 is on it's own IRQ (PCI 11) and shares memory resources only with the VIA CPU to AGP 2.0/AGP 3.0 Controller.

I've tried installing a new vid card (Gainward Geforce2 4.5/Pro Golden Sample and a Diamond TNT2 32mb) but I can't get video unless I use the 9100.

Anyway, instead of starting my own thread, I'm hitching my trailer to xSauronx's pickup in the hopes that both our problems will get answered.

You might try checking to see if your bios has a setting called "reset resources". That reset usually tells windows to look at the various device resources, and can clear up conflicts. You could also see if your bios is set to plug and play OS. Sometimes changing it to PNP, can free up a resource issue.

hey redbeard, thanks for the suggestions. Tried setting PNP to yes and resetting the resources but the conflict still comes up. Back to waiting, I guess.

How about pulling all other cards, disabling all onboard devices, and then booting up?

done and done
same prob
the gf2 is using the last two i/o ranges that the agp controller is using, not one prob with the card
hes going to try a radeon 8500 tomorrow and see if its some freak problem with the 9100
the usb was using the same irq as the radeon, but i changed that, didnt matter anyway it would seem
hes gone so far as to reinstall windows (not sure why really, did what i said it would - nothing)

any other ideas anyone? this is getting to be aggravating

xSauronx, I tried reinstalling windows using another vid card as well (Gainward Geforce2 4.5/Pro) and the system would hard lock as soon as it booted up. I would sometimes get it to go into the bios screen but after that, it wouldn't even go past the memory test. But putting in the 9100 would solve it. This is even after I formatted the HDD and started a fresh install of Win XP Pro with the Gainward in it. For some odd reason, the board seemed married to the 9100, refusing to do anything if any other vid card was thrown in.

I just gave up and RMD'd the M7VIT PRO back to Newegg. The 9100's in my other system and I'm now on the lookout for a new motherboard. Good luck with your system.
