AGP Status: Disabled?

I'm running a Sapphire Radeon 9600 pro on an ASUS P4P800 Deluxe, and since I've had it ive had a problem with the ATI control panel's SMARTGART utility telling me that its going to set my AGP speed to OFF, rather than 4x or 8x. Recently, I tried uninstalling the Control Panel and then installing RivaTuner. RivaTuner tells me in the subsystem diagnostics report that AGP status is disabled. What does that really mean, what does it mean in terms of performance, and does anyone know how I might fix it? thanks, i'll be around.

It won´t be a real difference between 8x and 4x, the difference is really small, like 3 or 5%.
