I really hope the 7800GS is priced 300$ tops, if its any more than that, I won't buy and go the 6800GS way instead, I really do hope the 7800GS is priced something like 250$ or so.

The 16pipe 7800gs will probably pull around 200watts from the psu, my 350watt psu should be enough.

Well guys, my mini-review of the GeForce 7800 GS AGP is now up, along with some benchmarks between the 7800 GS vs. the X850 XT:

http://ckturbo128.proboards4.com/index....dware&action=display&thread=1138544120

Unfortunately, I only had time to benchmark the two cards in the 3DMarks and some games. I will try to add some more benchmarks of the two cards.

I know it's not the best review, but I hope it helps people that are deciding between a X850 XT and a GeForce 7800 GS.

Performance all around seems nice and it looks like its an overclocking monster. Now all I'm worried about is price.

looks like performance is good, but why can't nvidia/ati deliver agp versions of the last gen cards?

Because their is more to lose then gain by releasing highend cards on AGP. The cards would require the bridge chip, do to the power requirements the might have to tweak the board since more draw would be comming through the single Molex connector, and since outside the AXP platform their is a PCI-e option for a mobo (without needing new ram). If you are running a AXP then you wouldn't want to be running a 7800GTX 512 anyways since it would perform a lot like this 7800GS anyways.

For shuttle users and AXP users I feel your pain but you should have seen this comming.

Awesome dude!

that review looks really nice and professionally done . . . you took some time with it and it is appreciated.

For ME - the extra $150 i'd have to pay over my $200 x850xt - it is not worth it. The cards run the same games at close to the same speeds and i don't feel nVidia's extra feature set is worth it. . . . of course, i'd also like to see if it unlocks.

Plus my xt clocks to 547/614 which would put it a bit closer to Yoon's GS and ahead of his xt..

I don't see a problem with the bridge chip, as Nvidia did get it to work with the GS didn't they? They are just squashing the market! I'm still waiting with my 6600GT for something at least half decent that is last gen like the 7800GT to come out in AGP.

Nice job! Thanks

I was expecting the 7800GS too be much stronger against the X850 XT. I'm a bit dissapointed.

From the mini-review, it seems the 7800GS's performance gain doesn't seem to be worth the extra money to get over the 200$ X850XT.

Well, for the record the X850XT isn't available anymore at all from Microcenter(for NOW). That $350 price for the 7800GS is likely to drop to below $300, which would officially make it the cheapest and best performing AGP card. However, unless the price drops to, at the very most, $250, I don't see people buying this card over the 6800GS, considering they offer just about the same peformance.

Have a friend that works at CompUSA... said he looked up their cost (aka his employee price) for the card and it's listed at ~$280. So i'd imagine once it's fully released and the prices settle down from the initial launch we should see it available for around $300 online. Plus BFG usually charges a bit of a premium for their cards... once the XFX, Evga, etc. brands come out, those should be even cheaper as well.

Whoa, glad to see an AGP part for the 7-series. Might have to upgrade my video card......

how much better would the 7800GS be compared to a 6800GT since both have 16 pixel pipelines?

I would say just a tad. Only because of the overclocking headroom.

Wow, what a deal ... not.

Looks like I'm sticking with my 6800GT/NF3 Ultra for a bit longer ... if they had released an AGP version of the GTX I'd have ordered one already.
