I don't see why he can't dial it back for just one day. Do you have a problem with him taking a couple of steps away from you and facing a different direction to get his fix?

Yeah, I wouldn't want somebody smoking one inside around me. It seems like the liquids aren't very well regulated yet and some/most of them still contain carcinogens.

If you buy good trusted liquid there is little danger to anyone that might breathe the vapor. The main ingredients are Propylene Glycol and Vegetable Glycerin. Both of these have been widely used for 50 or more years in everyday food products. I have been smoke free for a year and now use 0 nicotine liquid. I use mine in my office when I am alone working on PCs but never near someone else.

What's the point of smoking zero nicotine liquid? Couldn't you just as easily be blowing on a bubble pipe? And why do you feel the need to do it in your office if it isn't satisfying a physical craving?

This entire thread is an attempt at garnering crowd-sourced sympathy. Nice troll, though.

In all seriousness, the OP could just ask his/her/its boss...what's the worst they'll tell you, a flat out "no"?

How does any of that affect you? Please tell us how any of what you said is going to change how you have to live your life one bit? Please?

You are being childish and petty. I have no idea why your CEO lets you continue to work for him. I would hire go getters who aren't afraid to take chances. People like the new guy.

you're a fucking idiot.

We have a new guy(and he's a fucking moron).

He's a smoker. First things first, I just quit smoking(only smoked 2-3 years) 6 months ago. This guy is shadowing me tomorrow and will be within 2-4ft of me all day. He's with another co-worker today.

I see him puffing on his e-cig every few minutes. I'm telling him tomorrow that I'd prefer he not bring that in my cubicle. I understand there's no smell. I don't want to see your breath within my personal space and I should have that right.

I went out to talk to a few smokers(prob not a wise choice) about their opinion on the matter. Of course they said what's the big deal. The big fucking deal is this is my personal space, not yours. You're training here and obviously haven't earned your keep. I think you're a fucking moron for being on mobile facebook and smoking an e-cig while being trained. Why do I NOT have that right to request that any more so than he DOES have that right to smoke in my cube/personal space?

/weak rant off

Your right....weak rant.....however I certainly would e-smoke in someone eases space.

As an aside, I started on my Vapouriser a month ago after 30 years smoking....

Saw a family walking into a store the other day and though it odd the lady had this big breath cloud as it didn't seem nearly that cold. Then realized she probably had one of these stupid things.

there is another woman here that has an e-cig i've seen a few times. it doesn't bother me. if she came in my god damn cubicle using it, then yes it would bother me.

Does it cause cancer?

Not particularly

Does it stink?

Not particularly

If so I dont wanna be near it.

So youre OK with it then?

I really dont see the problem. At the moment we are letting people (patients) use them on the wards as there doesn't really seem a decent argument for not letting them. I wouldn't let any staff use them in clinical areas though, it just looks unprofessional (in the same way I dont want them walking about eating food in clinical areas), I'm fine with them using them in the staff room though (its a damn sight quicker than them nipping off out side for a ciggie).

don't look at him all the time. Don't you have work to do?

FFS...this is the problem with our society. "WWAAAAAAAAAAAAH! He is smoking an e-cig! WAAAAAAAAAH I feel uncomfortable when I stare at him! WAAAAAAAAH!!!!!"

Mind your own damn business and you won't have an issue.

again, do you have a fucking brain or just didn't read any of my posts? he is trying to learn how to do his job AFTER being transferred from his previous department BECAUSE HE DID A HORRIBLE JOB.

this would tell me, a somewhat logical person, that i'm on thin ice so i better step my game up or i'm gone. no, he wants to get on FB on his phone and puff on an e-cig 3ft away from someone that's trying to help him AFTER he's tried doing this job for a month. that's pretty unprofessional, disrespectful and inconsiderate.

i don't care if the guy shoots up heroin or enjoys a bath salt every now and then. however, if you're in my cubicle acting like that when someone is trying to help you, you can get fucked.

I agree with you. There is an idiot I work with who claims it is "just water vapor" that you exhale so he should have the right to smoke a e-cig near me.

How can it be just exhaled water vapor? You are inhaling some sort of chemicals to satisfy the nicotine craving and those same chemicals are exhaled as well. Just because it doesn't smell, doesn't mean it is harmless.

Well, it contains nicotine. That part of cigarette smoke is not shown to be even slightly harmful. It's the other tiny particles that give you cancer and lung tar.

Most people these days are getting the liquid from local vendors. They use 3 ingredients (vegetable glycerine, propylene glycol, and nicotine) + flavor. They are mixed to order and many places you can watch them mix it.

That being said I'm sure there's still questionable liquids from China or whoknowswhere.

Yeah, nicotine isn't that much different that caffeine.

So if you're working together in your cubicle and he suddenly decides he needs a hit, you would be ok with him standing at the entrance of your cubicle facing outward to do it?

I'd say that's reasonable.

I dunno how i feel about this. I e-vape in my cubical all day and have been for a year now. a lot of new ex smokers do so as well. So far management has not said a word, either because we keep it out of sight or just happy that people are stopping tobacco use and just look the other way. I can see how vaping in somebodys else's office or cubical would create a problem, and would never do what the OP's moron co-worker does.

Honestly i dont see a problem if im sitting in my cubical debugging a stored proc and take a hit, if anything the company is getting more work out out of me and not paying for my outside smoke breaks. lol i took like 4 hits while i wrote this post. hehehhe

in fact 4 of us just got back from the vape shop with some new juice flavors. this thread is ironic.
