I'm am ecig user and don't have a big issue with limiting it to smoking areas. My employer currently exempts them from the smoking rules and allows them inside and in the city owned cars. They look at it as better than smoking.

You don't want to "see" somebody's breath in your personal space?

Might I suggest you man up and stop whining?

I love how you think it's your "right" not to see his breath, I find that hillarious.

Man up? Child please. You should invest in a glass stomach so you at least see where you're going.

He's in my cube because he's insufficient at his job. Do you understand what I'm saying or just prefer to talk out of your ass on a daily basis?

Ask him not to smoke it near you and let him take whatever breaks he needs. I think if he has enough freedom to take a break for his little e-cig and get his nicotine he can man up and avoid puffing on the thing while in a cubicle. So I agree. Doesn't matter if people say its harmless, its still annoying. Has a stupid little fake light on there and stuff, kinda lol.

I saw my first "e-cigarette" in action a week or so ago while walking through a parking lot to a store.

My first reaction was "Why is that person smoking an oboe?"

My second reaction was "Why does that person look like the smokestack on a steam locomotive?"

My third reaction was "Wow, that idiot looks retarded." It's like the new fedora or something.

Pretty united front here OP. If he were a good smoker, he'd as you. I'm a smoker, we realize that we smell bad after smoking and it bothers people, but even heavy smokers can table it for a few hours out of respect for a co-worker. So, you're within your right, absolutely. Bottom line: He should, or should have asked your feelings about it and been cool with whatever you said.

Nice to hear this reply from a smoker(along with the other smokers that said he was in the wrong). Too bad there's still a decent amount of silly people in this thread that have poor logic(aside from rude guy, he's just a fucking idiot).

update:

he came in here. i saw it in his hand. i told him straight up i would appreciate it if he doesn't use it in my cube. he looked at me funny and confused(because he's stupid) and said "well alright then".

guy doesn't have a clue, oh well. at least i don't have to cry any more about his e-cig:biggrin:

Congratulations on your victory. Just remember he was docile about it when he asks you to take off your shoes before entering his cubicle or something ridiculous like that.

Indeed. I would even carry that to a more generalized attitude in life. Next time anyone asks you to refrain from something in a space they control and your first thought is "Wha? But I shouldn't have to...there's nothing wrong with..." or some variation of that, just remember that you have your own peculiarities that you expect other people observe too.

You know...

I don't think I would like it if someone used one of those around me if I didn't smoke.

i just broke out one of my ecigs and took a few puffs at my desk in honor of this thread.

Puffing as we speak.

While watching a really old HBO special with Rodney Dangerfield and Jerry Seinfeld. Roseann Barr is on it to, but I ignored her.

I think, within your cubicle its a reasonable request, now if you were in his cubicle and had a problem or even 1 over i think its stupid for you to care, yes I'm sure the vapor does contain a small amount on nicotine on the exhale, but it really is a trace amount and it disapaits very rapidly. You really have to be in pretty close proximity, like within 1 or 2 meters for it to reasonably mater to you if someone is using one IMO.

Bingo. My personal space is my personal space. Don't care if he does it anywhere else. Hell I go outside and talk to the smokers while they smoke sometimes.

OP's coworker is definitely a douche, but it kinda sounds like OP is not exactly best coworker ever material.

Kind of reminds me of a situation in my office where Person A complained about Person B because Person B played music over the radio (speakers, not headphones) in his office. Totally reasonable complaint. Everyone in the office agreed that it was rude to play music out loud, though some were "meh" about it and just tolerated it. Person A though raged about it so bad that he slammed his office door, banged on the walls, etc. every time Person B played music, the tide of public opinion in the office actually went in Person B's favor.

Complaining about things that bother you is fine, but the manner in which you do the complaining says a lot about you as well. Also, please realize that not everyone in the world has the same preferences and sensitivities as you, so for someone who doesn't think e-cig smoke is a big deal, then yeah, they're going to think you're making much ado about nothing.

OP YOU are the one who created this post and asked for people's opinions on the matter, and when people disagreed with you, you turned around and insulted their logic, called them morons, etc. You want my opinion? Maybe your new coworker is proof that karma exists.

You're comparing cigarettes/e-cigs and music together? That's really interesting. Was this thread about the smell that consumes the entire office? Was this thread about him using an e-cig anywhere in the office? It sure fucking wasn't now was it?

If you want to draw up the kind of person I am based off of a thread with a weak rant, by all means, no one is stopping you

What the fuck was I thinking... Not wanting a guy that can't do his job right coming in my cubicle using my time not smoking an e-cig in my face. LOFKNL. Tootles.

edit-also, karma isn't real, i'm guessing you believe in creationism too huh?

been so long since i've made a poll i forgot how to =/ lifer fail.

Ask Doppel, he wants to be more alpha. He even PM'd over it.

BTW I already knew this, but Doppel is a name for multiple accounts and he is totally anonymous on all of them.

IMHO smoking shouldn't exist in the workplace.
