It is amazing how incapable the modern adult is at following basic instructions. I was in the TSA precheck line when a guy in front of me tried to go through with a big container of Gatorade despite the countless signs and verbal instructions. When denied entry to the scanner because they don't allow liquid of that size the man exclaimed 'since when?!'

Uh I don't know... 14 years ago?

The next person tried to go through with loose change, metal jewelry and a cell phone

*sigh*

Just make sure you put your bags in the overhead bin at the front of the plane even if you sit in the back. That one always brings the blood to a boil.

Lately, I've been flying my week's worth of clothes in a single backpack and stowing it under the seat in front of me. Since airlines have started charging to check bags, the overheads always get filled up. I've actually been on flights that couldn't board because there wasn't enough room in the overhead bins for everyone's crap. They ended up checking bags for free....and I skipped that line because I wasn't using the overhead bins.

Yes, I really think that instead of charging extra for heavy bags, they should be charging extra for really fat people. There's tons of people on the average flight who weigh 50-200Lbs more than I do, so why can't I bring my 50Lb suitcase without paying extra. It still takes more fuel to get them there than me with my extra bag.

yeah.. I'm getting close to just wearing 5 shirts and 3 pants so I don't have to have a bag. Airtravel has always been a nightmare and they seem to figure out ways to make it worse and worse. If they are seriously wondering why people are so tense and have to get kicked off planes they just need a mirror.

Man those fast tubes need to get built already.

News flash: People are stupid.
I was a passenger in a helicopter for work this week. The pilot's main job was flying tourist sightseeing trips. I can't imagine how much that has to suck trying to keep stupid people from cutting their fool heads off while loading hot and to keep stupid people from trying to crash the helicopter in flight through the weight of pure stupidity. The tour helipads tend to be up on little mounds. I figured that was to make them more visible and to pull the tourists in. After thinking about it, I realized it is a safety measure to make it a bit more difficult to walk into the tail rotor.

not every flies regularly. some people have never even been on a plane probably.

they're trying to cut down on the size of carry on luggage so it's more globalized. the size would end up being smaller than the current ryanair carryon.
http://qz.com/423995/the-airline-industry-wants-your-carry-on-to-be-40-smaller/

you also got people making jackets that have tons of pockets so they can avoid the check in fees.
http://www.scottevest.com/company/carryon_release.shtml

a suitcase-jacket hybrid with stealthy pockets that, according to its manufacturer, are big enough to fit three shirts, three pairs of pants, three boxers, three T-shirts, three pairs of socks, a hooded sweatshirt, a laptop, shoes and a large towel.

I'll be honest, I ALWAYS forget SOMETHING. Out of the array of below possibilities, as I'm scrambling to do all of them - one of them will escape me.

1. Have Boarding pass, put away all others (drivers license back into wallet).
2. Take off belt, place in bin
3. Take off shoes, place in bin
4. Take off jacket, place in bin
5. Empty pockets, place in suitcase
6. Send Suitcase/Carry-on + Bin of shoes/belt/jacket in. Continue to hold Boarding Pass

Done!

Except...... OH WAIT god damnit! I forgot....
7. Take work laptop out and place in a 2nd bin
8. Forgot, I had a water bottle in my briefcase. Need to throw that out.

It's simply too much in too little of a time. I travel very often for work and it never fails that I often forget one of the above 8.

Translation: We are working with the baggage companies in order to make sure everyone that flies a plane has to throw away their current luggage and forcefully have to buy new ones. We might have taken a little cut under the table from the luggage vendors...

All the while, we are reducing unpaid weight/luggage, because, you know, they didn't pay for luggage on their ticket, they need to pay for it with a $50/bag fee. We also might be able to squeeze 1 extra seat to sell on the airplane as well.

I forgot half a soda in my laptop bag from my initial flight when I made my return flight last week. They just opened the bag up and threw it in the trash.

Also, they didn't make me take my belt off at either location.

My in-laws were flying from Michigan to Washington a couple years ago. Thankfully one of my wife's other sisters had to take them to the airport (and at that, we're several hundred miles from their home).

A couple of the sisters had over and over grilled them on having the paperwork and not packing steak knives, vials of bleach, etc.

My wife's sister walks them up to the TSA check in and her dad was fine, she said her goodbyes and was walking away and heard the commotion...as her mom was shocked...SHOCKED that her drivers license that had been expired for THREE years wasn't good enough.

"But it has my picture on it."

They also had noooooothing else to validate who she was, no credit cards, passport, birth cert, envelopes, nothing, the TSA goons (bless your hearts Detroit Metro people) let her in with a library card as verification.

edit: yeah, she had no problem mentioning she had been driving with that and no insurance for those 3 years either during the situation

I like the logic behind the no liquid rule.

"This might be a bomb, so let's go ahead and get you to put that in this trash can right over here next to a bunch of people"

Totally a security theatre.

To be fair I think it's retarded that an ID that expires is suddenly no longer valid, it's just a money grab to get people to have to renew that stuff all the time. Just because some date on it is too old does not change the fact that it's a government issued ID that has your picture and name on it.

But that said, people need to know the rules and be prepared. So still no excuse.

I don't know when the liquid rules were changed, I haven't flown in 8 year's so it's been awhile. I do remember getting a huge cup of coffee at DD and carrying it on the plane without issue. Although it's cramped and (now) overpriced I still love flying. (as long as I get a window seat) Think of the times not long ago people had to ride a hot, even more crowded bus for days on end to get anywhere, now the big steel chariot hurtles you across the sky in mere hours @ 500MPH. Things could be worse, ride a Greyhound sometime for proper perspective LOL.

Yeah I particularly enjoy flying. I've only gone on two plane trips though paid by the company. I did take the bus a couple times to go visit some friends down south in the GTA, it was a 16 hour bus ride LOL. Now that we have Porter flying is more affordable though so I'd fly if I did it again. Before Porter came to town it used to be at least a grand to fly to Toronto 1 way so I'd always take the bus or train. Train was actually a lot of fun, but they got rid of that unfortunately.

Cup of DD before security check = it goes in trash, DD after security check = no problem

Liquid rules came in ~10 years ago when there was some plot to mix binary explosives on planes, or something.

I've used Greyhound a few times this year for regional travel and as long as the bus isn't packed it's fine, and there are no rent-a-cops feeling up asses or harassing people over nail files or shoes. It is retarded that Greyhound gets a trophy for just a little basic decency, but in the land of the blind...

News flash: People are stupid.

No, they just don't pay attention or they just don't give a fuck. People routinely avoid reading and comprehending all sorts of signs. Why? because we are constantly bombarded with visuals of familiarity to a point where we ignore them. From Men at work signs to Missing person signs. There are signs that tell us that underage drinking is illegal even at home. It's actually our nature to quickly forget or ignore any visual or auditory information that might be deemed as unimportant.

You walk into a quick mart and there are dozens of signs littering the windows. From Monster energy drink flyer's to "missing dog named fluffils" Amongst them all may be a sign that reads "CC machine not working" which might be important to you but with so many distractions... Do you pay attention to all of them every single time? When we are bombarded with vocal announcments over the PA, it's common that people tune it out, at least here and there. Why? because it's natural for our brains to ignore things it may perceive as unimportant.
So when someone is standing in a long line, they often tend to drift off thinking of something else or they'll have a conversation with someone, effectively ignoring any instructions. Maybe they even got away with having large liquids before...I've gotten away with various things despite the signs. Sometimes places get so crowded that you can't even see any signs or hear instructions...common for me at concerts as I tend to be looking at hot chicks more than anything plus it's just that crowded.
