So I know that definition was a bit obscure but what Im trying to describe is somewhat like
tasting by smelling or how the Daredevil from the comics sees by hearing

AHHH!!! its driving me nuts

Basically it describes sensing with your other senses and not the one that usually senses it

Its sort of a a cool sounding word= not remote sensing...

hmmm

Nope, I googled my answer. I really didn't think it was the right word.

<-- Not a "House" viewer.

I remember seeing this show on discovery or something where they talked about people with a condition where they "hear shapes".

For example, if a dog barked, they would see some kind of pepper/spray around the dog, or if birds chirpped, they woudl see squares or triangles coming out of the birds mouths. Pretty strange thigns.

The Stars My Destination, classic scifi from Alfred Bester, has some excellent ideas on what synesthesia could be like. It's an outstanding novel, and very much before its time.

Interesting in that it was used for torture, if memory banks serve.

Novel was just okay, the poem has stuck for quite awhile.

Gully Foyle is my name...

i think there is something called perfect pitch (?) were a person "sees" a different color for different sounds and can then recognize the pitch by the color

That's not perfect pitch. Perfect pitch is the ability to hear a tone and instantly know which pitch (A B C etc) it is. That's not to say that some people aren't aided in their perfect pitch by synesthesia. Most commonly, I've known people to experience colors or tastes linked to particular keys (I knew a girl who experienced Bb Major as both yellow and tasting like bananas).

Synesthetics tend to have phenomenal memories. Tesla was synesthetic.

EDIT:

Had to check wiki because I forgot his name for some reason, but Duke Elington (of big band fame) was Timbre-Color synesthetic; how cool is that Also, Richard D. James and John Mayer have Music-Color synesthesia.

I'm almost jealous

Thought I'd send it back up- Perfect pitch has been associated colors though it hasn't been proven- they use it to coordinate their pitch so they can recognize certain pitches

Man- I knew a girl who had that- she played the violin and piano like it was her busineess- she was hawt

I guess not all synesthetics are good looking people- damn you john mayer- it'd be awesome if all synesthetics were hot
cause then we could admire them for more than just their looks and say we're not shallow
