Hi.
Last friday, i brought a iBook. After spending all weekend trying to get the network card working, i went to the apple shop in brum (1hour train ride), on monday, they fixed it, and i got home, and noticed the sound output for the headphone had ALOT of interference on it.
So the next day i went back, they said it was a software problem, and would ring me about it when they`ve spoken to an engineer.
They didnt.
So i rang yesterday, and said that the bloke i talked too was doing something and would ring back. He didnt.
So i rung today, and someone else said its a hardware problem, it needs returning within 14 days so they can test it. And if it is faulty, that they`ll get me a replacement.
But they dont have any in stock, and dont know when the next delivery is, could be 2 days, 2 weeks or 2 months!.
Ive also been told to bring EVERYTHING that came with it, box, cables, cable ties, manuels, CDs, ect; , although, if they do replace it, that i`ll only get a new iBook, and will be given the old stuff back! So whats the point in bringing it all down to brum!
It has a Airport Extreme Card & an extra 512mb of Crucial memory in it, so if it is replaced, i`ll need to make sure that they dont "forget" to transfer the stuff over.

So tonight, i`ll need to repack all my stuff into the box, write my college assignments to a CD, delete the software off it that ive installed, and take it back to them tommorrow!.

Typical. I spend 6 months working my a$$ off to get something ive wanted for ages, then i get it, and its broken!.

Rant Over.

iBooks are perfectly good products, i must have got a Dud.
And as for the comment on Apple products as a whole, ive been using a perfectly working iPod since August.

I would have gotten a PC baced lappy, but the fact of the matter is, that for the same price, i couldnt have gotten a PC with specs anywhere near the iBooks. Not ot mention that iBooks look cool.

which PC based ones were you looking at? You can get a damn nice (or 2) Dell laptop for a fraction of the cost of a loaded iBook. Heck, even a high end IBM still costs less!

Exactely.
A high end IBM or Dell, or even mid ramge, or one comparible to a ibook 12.1", would easyily cost £1000+. The 12.1" iBook costs £850. And is smaller. Better looking, FAR better battery life, ect;

That sucks. Your Apple shop sounds fairly incompetent. I've always had good experiences with thier customer service and tech support.

To those bashing hin that he could get a PC based Lappy cheaper:
Don't forget, he lives in Rip-Off Britain... add at least 20% (for IBM and Dell at least 30% or more) to the normal US selling price, or even european mainland selling price for that matter.

If he was able to get an Apple at that price and it is in comparison a good deal, then why bash him about it. There will always be duds, be it Dell or IBM or Apple. Computers are very complex machines where it doesn't take much to mess one up while making it.

take the card and the memory out yourself when you drop off the rest of the crap. they're just going to send your computer out, and it's a safe bet the remote people are not going to transfer the accesories over, especially the memory.

I have specified several times for them to transfer it over, and they said they would.
Plus, theres sticky notes on the keyboard, and on the top of the actual iBook reminding them of it! lol.
If they dont, i will go mental with them!.

"i went to the apple shop in brum"

BoomAM - I think you mean you went to a reseller of Apple computers in Birmingham, UK. Your complaint (apart from being unlucky enough to buy a faulty Mac) is with the reseller not Apple. You should have bought with the education discount from the Apple Store - you could have taken advantage of Apple's excellent returns policy - based on EEC customer protection law.

I am not going to quote it but if you look on the net you should find that goods sold over the net in the EEC have a period in which you can return them, free of charge - because there is no way to inspect them before purchase. No need for credit card based insurance.
