here is the origonal thread and im still trying to decide iw as given 2 option that i will consider both but i dont know what iis the best of the 2. i have $1000 beofre tax and shipping. this comp is for light gaming HW surfing and a little video editing. there will be no OCing. I want raw power and speed.

Option A

CPU: 3700 san diego

Option B

CPU 3000 venice

74 raptor for speed?
and then upgrade to a dual core when prices drop?

waht do you think would be the best option. the price differnece between the 2 is $6

Option A definitely if you are not overclocking. I would take the 1024 L2 cache and 400mghrtz over a Raptor and 3000+ 10 times out of of 10 times if there is no overclocking. The Raptor is no where near the upgrade the San Diego 3700+ is from the Venice 3000+ (video editing is one area where the extra L2 cache (512) can actually make a difference!

If you don't want to overclock, then option A is the only reasonable choice.

Get the 3700. By the time it's starting to feel it's age you should have more money to buy a dual core proc. and your platform should support it. At least that's what AMD promises...

I'm not planning on over clocking it at all and will be gaming on it.
Will the case be bbig enouf of the motherboard or do i need a bigger better case?

Definitely option A. You won't notice much of a performance increase with the Raptor, but the San Diego is awesome.

Option A no question. A raptor is fast yes but not by very much. A 3700 would wup a 3000 though.

If you're not overclocking The 3700+ Sandiego is the better choice.

1) Get a Venice or Sandiego core processor.

2) Try the onboard 7.1 sound before investing in an add-in sound card.

3) My personal preference would be a Antec TPII 430W PSU. (the PSU in the Mustang case only has 13A on the +12V which sin't really sufficient)

4) Plextor is nice but extremely overpriced in my opinion. I would get a NEC 3520A based on price/performance.

5) Based on personal preference, I would get a Seagate HDD.
