Hello, I have an Asrock P4i45gv r3.0 motherboard. I recently added a radeon 9600pro 256mb card to the open agp slot (used onboard prior). The video card never worked, and i realized that it isnt supported by Asrock (funny how they support almost any other card). I turned off the PC, removed the vid card put it in the box to return....and now it wont even POST. My HD light is solid, but the green LED wont even light once. What could be the problem?

Well, its hard to get into the bios because i cant get monitor signal. It doesnt post or show anything period. Btw, i think onboard is activated unless u manually disable it, which i dont think i did.

Try the reset jumper? (Clear the CMOS) quite possibly you disabled the onboard and can't reenable it agin. Maybe you should pickup a discreet graphics card on ebay for a little dough.

I couldnt find a jumper cap to short the 2 CMOS reset pins. I used a screw to short it for 3 seconds. Would this work, or do i NEED to use a cap? where can I find one? Any other suggestions?

Unplug the PC, pull the (round) CMOS battery and leave it out overnight.

okay, the battery has been out for just about 16hrs now. Just to let you guys know, I get the exactly same symptoms when I try to boot without a battery period. I'm gonna pop it back in soon. Maybe the battery is dead? Would this cause my problem?

To speed up this process, he could just simply press the power button a few times/holding it so that it "simulates startup" therefore draining the capacitors in all the components and effectively resetting everything.

Yep, i've cleared CMOS, still no boot.

How do you know it actually cleared? Might wanna keep trying, and as gohu mentioned press the power button after unplugging etc to drain the standby current out of it. Also...

Looking at the specs for your mobo and the 9600 gfx card, both support 1.5v (agp 4x standard) so I'm curious why ASRock says it's not supported.

Moreover, I have some doubts that just installing that card in there would, by itself, cause problems.

However, if you left the PC plugged in (I.e., the red LED was on) it MAY have damaged the agp slot. I have done this b4, although the standby current dorked my gfx card, not the mobo.

Good Luck with it,

Fern
