I'm so furious right now.

5 months ago I bought a 27" Wega TV from best buy and got their PSP (or whatever it's called) warranty plan. About a month ago it suddenly stopped working...We were watching tv and ZAP! it just turned off. I called bestbuy's PSP number and they refered me to a local electronics shop, Gabes Electronics. The guys from Gabe's came by picked up my TV and I thought i was going to have my TV back within a week. I finally get the TV back today (after 30 days) and it's got scratches that weren't there before including scratches on the screen(the tv was in almost mint condition before). I signed for the TV after they added a line saying that I still had disputes about the damages. They delivery guys said I would have to talk to the owner, Gabe to work out a solution. I've been calling since 12pm and he never received/accepted my calls, I always got his receptionist with promises to call back. Finally I call again and say my name is Mr. Smith (I had been using Mr. Singh, my real name) and he accepts my call. When I tell him that it was damaged while in their control, he says "No, we aren't going to do anything. We won't fix this." and hangs up on me.

I call Sony's tech support who transfers me to someone else. When she called Gabe's, the receptionist at Gabes refused to speak with her. Sony says that the place IS a sony authorized service center and that they would have their "techrep" investigate the matter and call me within a week. I don't know what else to do. I'm thinking about going down to best buy to talk to a manager there since BestBuy had referred me to them. I kinda want their bestbuy's regional office (I'm in Nashville,TN) number so if the manager is not being helpful i can call the regional office infront of him.

Other than that I'm pretty lost on what i should be doing. I'm open to suggestions/advice on what I should do from here.

I'll add pics shortly....

Edited for pics:

Before:
Earlier Pic of my TV (Taken sometime in June)

Pic taken 2 days before they picked up the TV. - I know it's not that good a pic, but I wasn't worried about my TV then.

After:
Pic taken today at the exact same location as the one 2 days before they picked up the TV That black smudge no the far side is the left middle scratch.

Scratch on top left

Scratch on Middle left side + scratches on the screen

Scratch on top right - It's 2 - 3 inches long.

Scratch on middle right

Edit #2
Sony called to say that they were checking on it, but they are not going to get involved b/c it's an issue between me and the servicer. Guess it's off to best buy I go.

Wait for a call back from Sony. If that doesn't resolve anything, contact the BBB, your local chamber of commerce (if Gabe's is a member) and go to Best Buy ready to raise hell.

Thanks, right now I'm so pissed I would spend more than the value of the TV just to let people know exactly how this company operates.

I have no idea how they did it and managed not to notice. It just boggles my mind.

Huh? Best Buy didn't do the damage.

Man, that sucks. Raise hell! Don't let them get away with it.

i think it's BestBuy that should be responsible. They're the ones that you bought the extended warranty from, and they should be the ones that are responsible for the set once it leaves your hands.

I bought an extended warranty for my vaio laptop from circuit city. when i gave it to them to be repaired it came back with part of the case broken. i showed them the damage and no questions were asked. they just gave me a new laptop.

i think the most important thing that people should get from this story is that you shouldn't accept anything back in a situation like this(i know you can't exactly say no to a huge wega, but maybe other things). just my 2 cents.

good luck.

Those are a lot bigger than I expected. Definitely contact Best Buy corporate if Sony doesn't come through. But, when Sony calls, send them the pics to prove your case.

Have you checked serial numbers? Gabe might of switched tv's on you....

Gabe is just a sub-contractor, who ever issued the warranty policy under which the tv is being repaired is ultimately responsible. I don't know if that would be BB or Sony.

Either way, sounds like Gabe is an odd duck.

Patience will be important here. Keep Sony and BestBuy on your side. Gabe is the enemy. Just keep after them when you don't understand something (ie., why your tv is damaged and Gabe won't fix it.). Put it all in writing too. embed pictures in letter, and send to Sony, BB, and keep it professional and polite. Stop talking to Gabe.

Sorry it took so long to respond, I just had to get away from the apartment for a while to cool off. Pacing and looking at the TV didn't seem to be helping for some reason. :frown:

in small claims is easy win for you

even if your tv had the dmg before being taken by the store you'll still win. They should have acknowledge any dmg upon receiving it otherwise they will pay
