Question AIO dying?

Houston, I may have a problem. Earlier today, I noticed that the fans in my PC were really roaring. This seemed odd because the PC was idle. I wasn't doing anything. I did have multiple clients of EverQuest running in the background but I wasn't playing, I was just sitting in a safe spot.

I opened Hardware Monitor and the CPUs were registered at 63-65C, ridiculously hot for an idle PC. I closed out EQ but left everything else running. Sure enough, the temperatures dropped to 32C and eventually the fans quieted down.

EQ is a CPU bound game. The GPU has no effect on it because it sold. So I'm worried that my AI all may be failing on me. Now I know that in a I/O failure would mean it wouldn't drop to normal temperatures by closing out EQ, but I have to cover all bases.

I have a Ryzen 5 5600 CPU. What air cooled fan would you all recommend, should I decide to replace the AIO?

First thing to do would be to see if the AIO pump is working? Using Hardware Monitor or some other software can you tell if it is running? What AIO is it?

Yep...troubleshooting is generally MUCH easier when we know what kind of hardware.

If you were running the game in the background, then clearly it wasn't "idling." The fact that the cpu temp dropped when you closed the game proves that. So how is that proof that your AIO is dying?

Thermalright Peerless Assasin 120. + Scythe Fuma 2 ... Lower-Top Tier... but more budget friendly.

On a 5000 series ryzen, i wouldn't put that on anything lower then a scythe fuma 2, as i know those things run HOT, first hand.

Idk about that. I used a BeQuiet Pure Rock 2 recently on a Ryzen 5600X I recently installed in my partner's computer (an mITX build too) as part of a mid-life upgrade. Seems to be doing just fine.
