Had a great time w/ OB. Got a ranger to 25. I'll be an asmo sorc on Siel for release. We should update the OP with our servers in week

I played a Gladiator to level 14 in beta so I haven't had an opportunity to do any pvp. But I did duel a bit and pretty much got raped by anything with a root or snare. At this level Glads have 0 ways to get in range. I hear they're good at later levels but I don't want to have to suffer through getting my shit pushed in from level 1 through 40 or whatever.

I played glad to 26 and did abyss & rifting. I was pretty disappointed to be honest, one of the strong points that few people know is that a bow is your bread and butter for when people try to kite you. This is because if your bow shot crits it temporarily stuns the target, its also another reason why stacking crit is good (along with Polearm knockdowns)

Personally I opted out of Gladiator and will probably roll Templar or Chanter to play with my Cleric friend.

I'm debating preordering CE for the level 30 wings - the 30 wings are 950,000 kinah in game, so the $10 seems worth it since it will save me from buying them on any character I make.

As for where I'm going to play its either Elyos on Israphel with friends or going Asmodian on Nezekan server to play with my Warhammer guild, Grudge.

I've got a dl going while I'm at work. Can anyone comment on how this is for solo/casual play? I'd like to find a game (not WoW) where I can play a couple hours alone during the week and do some coop play (either PvE, preferably PvP) on the weekends.

I wouldn't go as far as saying it's garbage, but it does feel like a lot of other mmo's i've played, I am just not sure if the storyline/play style is unique enough for me to care.

I spent most of the closed and open beta time playing a tank(Templar) and a healer(Cleric), the two worst classes to solo with in any MMO, and both of them were still enjoyable and didn't offer any real problems. The tank was certainly the most difficult, it took forever to kill anything and the inability to heal yourself effectively in combat made some fights a bit sketchy, the healer was a cake walk, 3-4 mobs a level higher then me and it was absolutely no problem. Took a little bit to kill them, but it never got to the point where I was close to getting killed.

I did mess around with the dps casters for a little bit too, as is predictable it is a breeze to handle solo content with them as long as you follow the normal rules of MMOs(powerful caster is fodder in melee range so don't let it happen). The amount of quests keep you busy and were enjoyable for the most part.

Personally I opted out of Gladiator and will probably roll Templar or Chanter to play with my Cleric friend.

Templar/Cleric should be a pretty nice combo, Chanter/Cleric seems more like a really annoying tandem to run into. Would take forever to bring you guys down, but pretty much nothing for burst damage. Honestly, I think I'd just avoid you guys if you were running that pair.

Yeah that's my goal though, I suspect sorc/assassins will be dime a dozen in retail, just pick up a few and we have a great all round group with the chant/cleric combo, its really a hard choice for me.

Templar has its strengths with a cleric, especially on the PvE front compared to Chanter, but I also think Chanter has much more PvP utility.

Decisions decisions..

I don't think Gladiator will be that bad in organize pvp since the other side probably focus on Cleric/Chanter/Sorc first so you probably have time to do your damage.

The only big thing I don't like about Aion is Game Guard, it is a pos.

@Zebano: as a Aesmodian sorc, I can solo to level 20 all the quest except the group quest in black claw outpost and black claw village. I think it is possible to solo to 25 (since it is the last pve zone) if you doesn't mind grinding. After that, it may be hard since you are going to contest zones at level 25. Take it with a grain of salt though, my highest level is 20.

Thanks Caivoma. I level slowly and I'm ok with that so this sounds like a potential game for me. I'll try it out tonight and see if it fun.

zebano, the open beta is over I believe so you'd have to wait til he 20th (if you pre-ordered) or 22nd to play the final release .

I leveled a chanter to lvl18 and sorcerer to 10. I really like the chanter class since it has nice buffs that are passive so no maintenance . And the staff combo attks look pretty cool.

I like the graphics and the character customization is pretty crazy (I don't think I saw 2 characters in the open beta that looked the same). Also the polish and little touches are nice (when it rains your character whips out a leaf umbrella, when in the desert your character fans himself/herself off from the heat etc., different idle character emoticons depending on where he/she is).

I'm really torn on whether or not I'll be buying this game. Like many others here I'm kind of "WoW-ed out" and cancelled my sub til perhaps the new expansion comes out next year. Really want to pick up this game but also should dedicate my time to other things. Final Fantasy 14 looks nice too and I definately should NOT play both, lol, for fear of my social life + career.

Couple thoughts on the classes now that I had a chance to play them all into the 20's...

1) Glad is a lot better than it appears at first if you just have experience in small group PvP. In larger scale PvP the sorcerers and clerics get the attention first which really opens things up for the mDPS. It's also the most satisfying of the classes that I played as the skill animations and sounds are done pretty well and it really feels like you're hitting things hard.

2) Sorcerer will be a highly demanded class with both premium CC and DPS abilities. A lot of people will roll them as a result but it looks like you'll always want more than are available. Pairing a sorc with a cleric would be a good way to ensure that your duo is in very high demand for grouping.

3) Cleric seems very powerful if you're experienced. It's a little slower for soloing, but a lot of the content is either non-social or can be made non-social if you're crafty. Pulling one or two mobs at a time you can steadily work through just about any place on a cleric quickly enough not to have to worry about respawns behind you. It's far easier than being in the middle of a hostile area on a sorcerer and trying to figure out if you have room to blind leap anywhere on your next 2-pull. It's a sustainable sort of combat you would expect from a DnD cleric but with a regenerating mana pool.

4) Really good rangers will be the most annoying class to fight in Aion and the leading cause of people switching channels.

Level cap is 50. I think the developer are mention about guild hall/town in future content patch but I could be wrong.

How are assasins in group PVE?
Still thinking about getting this. I didn't play the last few days of beta but the first few days were really laggy. I'll assume they are fixing that.

There was no lag at all when I played the OB this past weekend. I'm pretty sure that issue has been taken care of.

Just as a general side note to anyone that bought the game:

Starting 12:00 p.m. PDT (Fri 3:00 PM EST) on September 18, 2009, eligible players will be able to start their game clients and log in to create a total of two characters ahead of everyone else.

I'm reserving Buttgoddess on Azphel. Anyone test the naming filter yet? It seemed pretty lax with some of the names I was seeing in beta.

It was pretty much non-existent in beta and it will probably be very loose in regards to IP in retail. I know NCSoft routinely changed CoH names that were reported as objectionable, however, so you'll probably have more luck as Superman or Barricade then you will as CostaRicansSuck. Many symbols were allowed as well, so I fully expect to see a lot of xBatmanx and ~Batman!~ versions.
