Air Conditioner Making Funny Noise

My air conditioner (not the outdoor unit, but the thing inside) has been making a very loud "cricket" noise every once in a while, but now it's been going on for about 30 minutes straight.

At first I thought it was an actual cricket, but it's way to regular sounding for it to be a cricket. I think it may have to do with carbon monoxide since there's a warning on the unit, and I know there are CO detectors that sound like crickets.

I'm going to call my apartment management too.

Sounds like the bearing/busing in the air handler fan is going out. You can replace it yourself if you are handy bet be prepared for a nice bill if you cannot.

Oops...didn't see you are in an apartment. Call them now and have THEM fix it.

i think it might be the contactor for the fan motor. That will chatter sort of like a cricket. Kinda tough to tell if im not there.

They came and cleaned the water tube, which I have no idea why it would make a cricket noise. It sounded good for a while, but went back to making cricket noises. They said they would come back when I was gone and actually take apart the inside AC unit if it continued to act up.

My Dad thought it was fan related too. I'll probably call them tomorrow and tell them to take a look at it again cause I'll be gone for most of the day.

Air conditioners burn coolant at an extremely high temperature, which actually "cracks" the molecules apart. Sometimes the molecules resist, and break apart too slowly. This causes even more friction which allows the newly cracked refrigerant to "squeal" or even "chirp", so Carbon Monoxide is the most likely source of the chirping

Carrier piston accurator equipped?

Is there a liquid line mounted filter drier? Check the temps on each side. If one side is noticeably cooler than the other replace the drier. A partial restriction in the liquid line can make noises like that and rob efficiency since it acts as a secondary expansion valve.
