The good things I heard were that you didnt have to replace the filter and it used less power and was quiet.

Yes, I have seen the infomercial dozens of times. Supposedly it is silent and very easy to clean. There is no filter perse, but rather some "rod" that all the gunk gets attached to. Then all you have to do is wipe down the rod. According to the infomercial it is good at cleaning out smoke, odors etc - along the lines of the HEPA filter.

you mean from the shlocker image, most of the stuff seems to be more hype than tech.

The same type of "filter" is on our furnace, does not seem to catch must crud, and if you leave it on you get lots of ozone

Can anyone explain what's so bad about getting a lot of ozone?

I'm considering buying the mini-bathroom and regular size Ionic Breeze for the bedroom (12'x15').

Seems like a terrific idea if it actually works. Our HEPA filter is quite loud even on its lowest setting. It's not a cheap one either -- made by Hunter.

The only problem with the Ionic Breeze is that it's around $350. :Q

Try Csonka.com .. they have a similiar device for only 100 bucks or so. It works to, you can smoke in my house and not smell it!

I'm sitting next to one right now, ionic breeze from sharper image, there are a couple in the office I work at, cool thing about it, it kind of leaves the room with this 'after thunderstorm' smell.

My honest opinion of them are that they suck. My old office bought two of them because my ex-coworker had many alergies. They would sit there for about 2-3 weeks and the amount of dust they collected were minimal. They do attract dust but at an incredibly slow pace. And, they are silent but that because they move such small amounts of air at a time. And, at the price their asking for them...200-300...there are much better air purifers on the market for half that price. The one good point about them were that they were really easy to clean when they did get dirty and that you didn't have to but replacement parts for them either. But, then again, thats my honest opinion of them, and only my opinion.

I've got Vegan friends that love them. Have 1 in every room (5 total). Rave about it all the time. You can 'feel' the air moving around it. They are silent. But I think they *want* them to work because it matches their mental choice. I don't know how wonderful they are, because I don't live near them.

I'm not sure if I'll dig that 'after thunderstorm' smell all the time in the bedroom and if excess ozone in the room is harmful or not.

I wonder if/when Consumer Reports ever rated this product?

Also does anybody know a website or forum that I might could get some more info from?

I don't know much about their effectiveness, but I do know that Sharper Image sells a lot of them.

To the best of my knowledge, Sharper Image has some coupons lingering out there, so it might help to knock down prices. If that doesn't work, perhaps you can use one of those best price guarantee programs (i.e., American Express and Cnet Advantage).

I would avoid the Sharper Image thing... my friend has one. It probably gives you cancer or something

I'm a big fan of the ionizer/air purifier that Hunter makes. I have had running in my room for a year straight, it's very quiet on the lowest settings and takes A LOT crap out of the air. This is evident from the filter, which it has two. One needs to be cleaned every so often the other must be replaced every 6 months or so depending on what kind of enviornment you have it in. In the long run it's more expensive then the stand alone ionizers on the market, but I think it's worth it.

I've been thinking of getting one. I've got a filter already, and it helps, but it just can't combat the amount of smoke that moves through the house (I'm the only non-smoker here). Every morning I get up, go into the hallway, and promptly start sneezing. It gets old fast, not to mention I find the smell very hard to tolerate.

I started out with 4 of the things and now have only one. The fine wire filiments break and they become useless. Sharper Im.never answered my emails concerning the prob.got tired of looking at em and threw em out. Good concept..but poorly made junk. Last time I buy anything from Shafter Image.

Bwahaha! yes I'm sure their great! after you get one, you should also look into the Qray "ionized" bracelet Which somehow makes ions flow through my body, inexplicably eliminating pain. Thanks Q-Ray!!!!!! seriously though, i dont know whether the things work or not. Frankly I'd rather have a bagel.

well after reading everyones posts about the ionic breeze, i think i am the most qualified to answer questions about them since i work for Sharper Image in NJ for about 6months now. Their is a promotion going on that if u buy 1 at regular price u can get the 2nd one for half off which comes to $556.42 including tax. Their are 2 sizes and 2 different colors. The big one works for 12X20 rooms and the small works for 10X12, and the big ones are only $50 more. The Ionic Breeze Quadra is the most popular selling product ever made by sharper image, and it really works since i have 2 in my house. They are good for removing cigarette smoke, dust, animal hairs, food odors, etc. It used to be 1 yr warranty but they upped it to 3 yrs. Usually when u buy 2 quadras and when u give the salesperson ur home address Sharper Image sends u a coupon in the mail for free plug-ins which are worth $69. If anyone has any questions about them or any orher product fell free to msg me.
