AirAsia flight from Indonesia to Singapore missing

This might interest others as the drama continues to unfold: Air Asia was not licensed to fly the route being taken by flight QZ8501 on the day it was lost:

"AirAsia Indonesia did not have a license to fly the Surabaya-to-Singapore route on Sunday that ended in tragedy, it has been revealed.

The airline was approved to fly the route four days a week but it did not include Sunday.

Indonesia's Ministry of Transport has announced a full investigation and suspended Indonesia AirAsia flights between the two cities. It will also check all other airlines operating in the country to make sure they were complying with license agreements."

PANGKALAN BUN, Indonesia -- An official says divers have retrieved one of the black boxes from the AirAsia plane that crashed more than two weeks ago into the Java Sea, a major breakthrough in the slow-moving hunt.
Henry Bambang Soelistyo, chief of Indonesia's search and rescue agency, says the flight data recorder was brought to the surface by four divers early Monday morning.

He says the search continues for the cockpit voice recorder.

It seems like with SE Asia entering the first world and getting its own middle class, that the airline industry there was not ready for the increase in air travel.

Fuselage located

A Singaporean navy ship on Wednesday located the main body of the AirAsia plane that crashed into the Java Sea late last month, raising hopes that bodies of most of the 162 victims will now be found.

Underwater photos showed the cracked fuselage and part of a wing of Flight QZ8501, that went down on December 28 in stormy weather during a short trip from the Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore.
