AIW 9600 or 9600 XT/TVD

I want to be able to record from TV (and later burn to DVD) and was thinking of getting the AIW 9600 Pro.

I have just seen the 9600 XT/TVD and was wondering would I be better off getting this as it does have video in and the XT is slightly faster for games so Ive read.


What would the AIW give me that the XT doesnt (I dont need Radio support)

A tuner, and probably a TV guide of sorts for automagic video recording. I have no experience with recording TV on a PC whatsoever, but I imagine you should be able to piece together the same functionality with an external tuner and video in, though you'd lose the ability to change the channel within the program when scheduling recording (unless you bought an external transmitter/controller).

You could always buy the XT and a separate TV tuner. That way you can later upgrade your video card and keep the tuner card.

I have digital cable so not sure if the channel changing will do me any good. Im thinking ill just have to hook the digital box to the video in (via composite or svideo)

The remote(s) alone makes the AIW 9600pro a better buy IMHO. Asus's ships limited versions of their editing software suite also. The Pinnacle studio and ATI MMC is a much better software package, however, you can download MMC from ATI(minus the DVD decoders), and it'll work fine with the Asus card.

You could hook your VCR or STB for a tuner for the ASUS card, a seperate tuner wouldn't make use of the features of the Theater 200 chip and the GPU, so you wouldn't be able to exactly match the feature set, and the added cost makes it a poor value compared to the AIW.

I'd get the AIW unless you need DVI, the AIW 9600pro doesn't support DVI.
