what you guys want is a high quality product for a cheap price. too bad the two doesn't go together. i was in the market for a mp3 HU myself and the AIWA is the ONLY one that exist at such a price. no one ever said AIWA was a high end brand name. you pay for what you get. don't diss AIWA and compare it to ALPINE or KENWOOD. if you got the $$$, go ahead and spend it on a real expensive mp3 HU from ALPINE or KENWOOD. else if you want a decent brand, go with AIWA. i was gonna get one myself but 300 is still out of my reach

thats the point. Aiwa is not worth $300. Maybe $179-$199 at most, so go do some computer werk for a stereo shop and get one at dealer cost or something.

Hoeboy,

Can you give me the part number of that Alpine mp3 HU? I have a friend that works at CC so I can get the kenwood at cost, but the alpine may be a better choice. Also, for those of you who bought either the kenwood 919...How do you like the features? $300-400 is still a lot of money to spend on a head unit that may become outdated just as soon as next years models come out. This isn't like buying a cd-player that may have a better DAC next year. Next years head units could add completely different features. One thing that bugs me is the NON-ability to rewind and fast forward in a song. How about titling songs on the kenwood/alpine units? I read the comment on random play can't go through directories...anything else wierd about directory usage?

thanks

Generally speaking, i keep a head unit until I get rid of the car, hence why i'm using top of the line pioneer, or clarion, or kenwood (the $300+ models). I want my car to make loud clear reliable noises. I have never had a KENWOOD (excelon), clarion, nor pioneer go out on me. I have had Alpine, something that started with an E, Sony (low end) die.

I'm im going to put a $2000-$3000 stereo in my car to rock, why go cheap on the most important part of the stereo. It's like getting a mad phat pimp ultra-scsi raid 512 megs, geforce 2 gts, and putting a celeron 400 in it.

makes no sense.

jamey,

you should be able to find the model # at the manufacturer's website.

as for the ability to rewind and fastforward a song, sadly the kenwood, which is double the price of the aiwa, still can't even fastfwd and rewind. in my opinion if you guys are all really that picky, dont even buy any mp3 HU right now. wait for the 2nd-3rd generation HU to come out.

AIWA is just about the worst car audio brand one can buy. I don't know about their home stereo, but my brother had a AIWA stereo in his car, and although it looked kinda cool...it was the biggest piece of junk ever. I think he ended up selling it in a pawn shop for $20. Go with Sony...you can get a great CD stereo with changer controls, disc memory, 35x4, remote, etc for under $300. There might still be some on sale at Crutchfield.

Was looking at another model Aiwa just b/c of the INPUT JACK on the face.

Does anybody else make a unit that makes it EASY to jack-in a different audio
source (ie mp3 player or md or iOpener)?

I think Aiwa makes some killer stuff. I have two of there home systems that are around $300 each. One thats a few years old and a new one. They both have never missed a beat and both sound great. My new one sounds much better then a Sony I had in the same price range.

I don't think I would care much about an Mp3 cd player for two reasons,- 1. The Infinity system in my brand new car is so killer I would hate to mess with it. - 2. The cost of CD's is so low I think I just keep burning Mp3's to CD format and just change the cd every 80min.

I bought one of these pieces of junk. I had no ideal how sorry aiwa products were. Well, I know now. I am returning mine for many different reasons, but most of all because it skips or pauses or just flat out refuses to play most of the cd's I put in it. And mine is not the only one. Check out the hardware forum at mp3.com, or rec.audio.car usnet newsgroup. Lots of people complaining about this thing. Good luck to those of you who decided to try it anyway.

I had an Aiwa home audio component system. First the rca jack for the sub stopped working. I took it to best buy and had them repair it. Second the rear channels died. I threw it away. Take my advice, for home audio by denon or onkyo receivers and for car buy kenwood. I specifically say kenwood because their faceplates last a long time. If you put a pioneer or alpine in the print on the buttons wear off and it looks cheap. I have owned 3 Kenwood receivers in 3 cars and they rock--never skip, sound great and look great. I would have to agree with everyone else that is saying AIWA is horrible.

A friend of mine ordered his about a month ago from somewhere else, and finally just got it last week.

He's not a stereo-maniac, but he said everything worked well and he was happy. Only complaint was that it looked a little too pimpified, with the flash display and all (pretty much all the new ones have that) He popped a CD in there and it picked up the folder. I guess it depends on what you're looking for in a car CD player. I think, for the price, you can't beat the convenience of it, even if there are some flaws. My opinion, anyway..

On a side note, my current in-dash, a Pioneer "Premier" CD player about 3 years old, works excellently and has given me no trouble whatsoever. No button fading or skipping, except on huge-ass bumps.
